Ya, sunbird have this tendency to nest in people's balcony's or garden. It happened to a friend of mine too...came to build nest one year, went away and came back the following year. Your hibiscus is still flowering then?Originally posted by a_splash:'gardening' in abit of mess, flowers not blooming much, tho we still hv some sunbird (that's what my children told me, not sure if they are right) and others coming for the hibiscus.......

Now the plant is not nice...very small and maturing/flowering le...and I can't seem to get rid of the mealy bugs once and for all.Originally posted by a_splash:wow........post a pix when u can k....

ok must run le...
tomorrow must chase for money le...else i will be in trouble....wish myself good luck.......
i ever saw this white stuff moving on the plant. all i did was just spray with insecticide (those small little bottles and extremely smelly liquid which needed to add with water) and i think it works, didn't se them anymore. Recently found LOTS of crawlings that look like tiny worms crawling all over the soil when i dig them out. i used that too.Originally posted by Wanda:Now the plant is not nice...very small and maturing/flowering le...and I can't seem to get rid of the mealy bugs once and for all.
Do you ever have this problem? The supposedly remedy is to spray diluted neem oil mixture.
I see....Originally posted by a_splash:i ever saw this white stuff moving on the plant. all i did was just spray with insecticide (those small little bottles and extremely smelly liquid which needed to add with water) and i think it works, didn't se them anymore. the most common type, easiest to take care...i also hv another peach color (the shop keeper says that is hibiscus) but the 'dress' is not folded outward, if you get what i mean....Originally posted by Wanda:I see....
I don't use insecticide de bec I try to keep it as organic as I can...as I sometimes give the catnip leaves to the cats to play. It's like a "drug" to some cats that are sensitive to it...they sniff liao then start to roll about in a daze.I also plant cat grass for my foster cats to munch on...so I don't use insecticide.
What colour is your hibiscus flower? Red?

Peach colour is really pretty...it's like pale orange.Originally posted by a_splash:the most common type, easiest to take care...i also hv another peach color (the shop keeper says that is hibiscus) but the 'dress' is not folded outward, if you get what i mean....
ic, then how.....if don't use insecticide, the plant will 'vanish' soon...unless u can find some more organic way like inviting their predator![]()
ok will take a pic for u should they bloom again....Originally posted by Wanda:Peach colour is really pretty...it's like pale orange.I went to buy the neem oil to mix with water and sprayed over the plants...so far the plants didn't die yet.
I think I can't buy new plants le, coz everytime the rainy season comes the plants (like now), there is no sunlight along the corridor and the plant starts to have problems, except the dumbcane which never die, but is so boring. The other thing is my neighbour "chope" all the good places along the corridor which can catch some sunlight..leaving me with all the shaded areas.![]()

sayang sayang don't cry....
The leaves are moh moh one right?Originally posted by a_splash:wanda,
maybe u want to try growing this plant? i put it in the shade, that is no direct sunlight, its grows better...and can flower still.....

I used to plant mint, but due to poor sunlight conditions, the mint got mint rust and after that there is no cure liao....it will spread until all die.Originally posted by a_splash:herbs....u can plant mint (but i don't think got flowers right?, that red color leaves and stem (add color to your greeneries), rosemary?
ic......Originally posted by Wanda:I used to plant mint, but due to poor sunlight conditions, the mint got mint rust and after that there is no cure liao....it will spread until all die.
I'd planted basil before too...but also succumbed to fungus later. Most herbs like sunny conditions to thrive.
ginger growing nicely....Originally posted by Wanda:Splashy, I think I won't buy new flowering plants for the time being...the weather isn't good nowadays and will be getting more "sun-less".
Have you got new ginger from your pot?
What soil did you use? Maybe I should chuck a chunk of ginger into a pot too.![]()
