Can the whole world replace fossil fuel with new fuel?

  With the price of petrol surging as time goes on because most countries need it to drive thier economy up, it will get worse later on. Can the whole world replace fossil fuel with new types of fuel?

  of coz.. there is always hydrogen, nuclear, energy amplifier blah blah blah... but right now, fossil fuel is still the most economical and portable fuel source.

  New fuel i mean some thing enviromental friendly. Nuclear is too risky. Recently there is a Singaporean who invented using cooking oil as ingredient to make the new fuel. There were news reported that certain plant like cane also can make liquid fuel to substitute petroleum which is more ecomical than petroleum in other countries. Correct?
