A tenth Planet has been discovered!

  A tenth planet measuring 2700 km in diameter was discovered orbiting the sun at 9.7 billion miles !!
  
  The discovery was made by Michael Brown, a planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology and one of three Nasa-backed researchers to discover the object.
  
  FYI, pluto's diameter is 2274 km, Earth's is 12756 km..
  
  Its mostly ice.. like the "planet" pluto..
  
  Its orbit is very eccentric.... at nearest to sun.. its even nearer than neptune..
  
  Currently its name is 2003 UB313..

  Ya. there were already sightings in march... correct me if I am wrong.. but its only recently that they have direct evidence right??

  These time-lapse images of a newfound planet in our solar system, called 2003UB313, were taken on Oct. 21, 2003, using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at the Palomar Observatory near San Diego, Calif. The planet, circled in white, is seen moving across a field of stars. The three images were taken about 90 minutes apart.
  
  Scientists did not discover that the object in these pictures was a planet until Jan. 8, 2005.

  u could be referring to Sedna, which was discovered in 2003.

  If I remembered correctly.. it increases our knowledge of Kuiper Belt Objects.. which will increase our understanding of our solar system...
  
  Short-term wise, there wont be any benefits except for knowledge..
  Long-term wise, it is a tiny step for cosmology.. which will save the human race once our sun starts to die off...
  
  But as if human race can survive that long
