Can I just get some opinions, on how you feel about going to tsunami related areas like Phuket & Maldives?

my uncle n aunt went to phuket n maldives even after wat happened...
and there were alot of pple there...
my cousin refused to go along cos she was scard...
so i guess it depends on how u personally feel abt it,
will u be comfortable if u go? -

just now watched ch 8 news that an earthquake is going to occur again near Tsunami area again. they warned others not to visit this area... so i feel at a moment it is unsafe.
however tsunami can just hit anywhere... even sg since sg is surrounded by the sea.
so this is what i suggested in case you are caught in a tsunami:
1. Move quickly to higher ground.
2. Seek shelter in reinforced bldgs as the upper floors of high multi-storey, reinforced concrete bldgs can provide refuge if there is no time to quickly move inland or to higher ground.
3. Move out to deeper water if you are on the boat or ship and there is time, move your vessel out to deeper waters. if there is severe weather,it may be safer to leave the boat at the pier and move to higher ground.
4. Wait for 'ALL CLEAR' signal. Stay away from the area until it is safe. Do not be fooled into thinking that the danger is over after a single wave - a tsunami is NOT a single wave but a series of waves that can vary in size.

Warning Signs to Look out For!!!
- If you are at the beach or near the ocean and feel the earth shake, run immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for a tsunami warning to be given.
- The sudden draw down of the sea level resulting in a receding shoreline, sometimes by a kilometre or more, is a sign of a preceding or in-between crest of tsunami waves. Head for high ground as quickly as possible.
- Do not approach the beach to investigate.
- If you are advised to evacuate, do so immediately. -
Was at Phuket on a diving trip out at the sea on the day(26th Dec 2004) when tsunami hits...
Went back to Phuket to dive after tsunami during Chinese New Year period this year...
Going to Phuket for dive on end of this year during x'mas period... -

Not adviseable to go cus the current condition is still not safe....
There still warning going on and people should avoid those places so as not to add more problem to the current situation...

Personally i don't feel 100 % confident but I must say Maldives is truly beautiful!
No point going if you don't feel safe, and u're constantly in fear right?
Anyone heard about the insurance policies to tsunami-related areas being void for 36 months?
