Colonial Anemones
Colonial anemones are closely related to sea anemones. Called zoanthids (Order Zoanthidae), they are made up of tiny individuals joined to one another in a colony. -

Octopus' garden
The octopus (lower left corner) is hiding in its hole. There are many in the sandy areas near the beacon. Octopus, squid and cuttlefish are molluscs. -

Although a mollusc, the octopus is the most intelligent of all invertebrates. It has a well-developed brain, and its eyes are very similar to human's. -

Octopus, like their relatives squids and cuttlefish, can rapidly change their colours and even body texture to blend with their surroundings. -
Octopus under a plank
This octopus was uncovered when we lifted a plank. Of course we quickly replaced the plank as otherwise the octopus would be exposed to predators and would be stressed. -
Octopus hiding at low tide
This octopus was hiding under a rocky overhang while waiting for the tide to return. -
Cuttlefish
Cuttlefish too can change colours to match their surroundings. This little one was trapped among the seagrass at low tide. We left him alone after quickly taking a few pictures. -
Nudibranch
These tiny amazing creatures are flamboyantly clothed to advertise their distasteful nature. They are molluscs without shells, and have external gills. Despite their colourful costumes, they are really hard to spot and seeing one really makes for a special visit to Chek Jawa. -
Carpet anemones (Stichodactyla sp.) come in amazing colours and patterns! -
