Name of formula: yu ping feng san (source: dan ji xin fa)
Uses: instant sweating, qi deficient, catching cold easily.
Composition:
huang qi 30 g, fang feng 30 g, bai zhu 60 g
Make into fine powder.
Dosage: 12 g each time. 3 times a day.

Note:
Decoction from using equal amount of huang qi, fang feng, bai zhu is called huang qi tang and can be used as qui zhi tang. Gui zhi can be added if the patient is uncomfortable with wind blowing.

Name of formula: an zhong san (source: Tai Ping Hui Ming He Ji Ju Fang)
Application: neurogenic gastric pain, gastric ulcer, duodenum ulcer, over abundance of stomach acid, prolapse of the stomach, chronic inflammation of the stomach, narrowing of the pylorus, pain during menses, vomiting during pregnancy.
Prescription:
gan cao 6 g, gan iang 3 g, yan hu suo 3 g,
xiao hui xiang 3 g, gao liang jiang 3 g, rou gui 3 g. -

Cold or Influenza with Sore Throat

Prescription:
jin yin hua 4 qian, lian qiao 3 qian,
zhi gan cao 3 qian, jie geng 3 qian,
xuan shen 5 qian, niu bang zi 3 qian,
chuan bei 3 qian, lu gen 8 qian,
ban lan gen 5 qian, sheng jiang 5 qian,
bei xing ren 4 qian.
Adjustment: if no sweat, add zhi ma huang 1 qian.
Warning: patients with heart problem not to use ma huang. Zhi ma huang is baked and not as drastic as raw ma huang.
Boil with 3 bowls of water. Simmer till one bowl is left. Drink while warm. Cover with blanket to make the body sweat.
1 qian = 3.75 grams (old measurement)

Ginseng
Ginseng is probably the most famous chinese herb. It has been used in Asia for more than 5,000 years. In China, ginseng has been treasured since the dawn of written history. In the Qing Dynasty of ancient China, ginseng was prized more than gold.
Ginseng is available in literally thousands of tonic formulations and it is featuring the most of the traditional preventative herbal remedies. Many people seeking to improve energy and vitality use ginseng daily.
Ginseng requires about six years to mature, but it is difficult and expensive to grow. Its value is found in its stained root which contains a complex mixture of carbohydrate compounds, nitrogenous compounds, fat-soluble compounds, vitamins and minerals. The curative powers of ginseng are unique in the way they affect the whole body. Ginseng has also been recognized as a potent immune system tonic by modern researchers.
There are several types of ginseng available: Asian ginseng, also called panax ginseng, American ginseng, Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus), and Japanese ginseng (Panax japonicum). Panax ginseng, which is grown especially in Korea, China and Japan, is the most widely used. American ginseng grows commonly in wooded areas from Quebec to Minnesota and south to Georgia and Oklahoma. Siberian ginseng grows in forests of Russia, China, Korea, and Japan.
Only Asian and American ginseng are known for their exceptional curative properties. These two species of ginseng look very similar and have also similar chemical compositions. These days, North American Ginseng is cultivated in British Colombia, Ontario, and Wisconsin, and is a valuable export. North American ginseng is often considered the most valuable and beneficial. -
Cordyceps
Cordyceps is one of the most rare and treasured herbs, and it has been an important ingredient in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It can be found on isolated places in southwestern China, especially in the provinces of Tibet, Sichuan, Qinghai, Guise and Yunnan, in locations over 3,500 metres.
Cordyceps is primarily collected wild, as the grown cordyceps is of lower quality, but the wild cordyceps is usually very expensive and costs up to $1000 for 100 grams. Wild cordyceps from Tibet is supposed to be the best in the world.
Scientific research has proven that wild cordyceps is richer in certain components, and also that the proportions of its ingredients are different from the cultivated herb, and this might make some differences in the activity. Nevertheless, cultivated Cordyceps is still a premium and valuable tonic herb.
Cordyceps became famous because of its powerful aphrodisiac effects. Recent studies performed at Beijing Medical University of China and in Japan have shown a 64% success rate among men suffering from impotence, vs. 24% in the placebo group.
In the ancient China, cordyceps was highly recommended as one of the most effective medicines for all illness. Due to its anti-aging and cure-all properties, it can be compared to ginseng, reishi and deer velvet. In general, cordyceps is a tonic that help the body build strength, improve the organic functioning, strengthen the immune system and bring longevity. -
Reishi Mushroom
Reishi has been ranked highly in the traditional Chinese medicine and its use has a long history. Reishi is officialy called "Ganoderma Lucidum" and especially in China it is also known as "Ling Zhi". Reishi is a rare mushroom and it is extremely hard to cultivate. Reishi mushrooms are rarely eaten as food outside of Asia because they are hard with a bitter taste.
Reishi has long been used to expand life span and to increase vitality. It is known to promote good blood circulation and prevent diseases that are related to blood vessels and circulatory system. Reishi is helpful for normalizing blood pressure and treating high cholesterol. Reishi is also currently studied as a sports performance enhancer.
Herbs like Reishi are classified as "superior herbs". The primary function of such herbs is to increase disease resistance and normalize bodily functions. They are used as tonics and sedatives.
Herbs like Reishi contains polysaccharides and triterpenoids that are known to enhance the functioning of the immune system. Studies have also shown that these ingredients suppress the growth of implanted tumor cells. Especially continuous intake of Reishi achieves the best results.
There are many applications of Reishi Mushroom. For example, Chinese women take Reishi for beautification of the skin and it is included in many Japanese patents for hair loss formulas, including products used for alopecia. Reishi Mushroom is also an adaptogen, with properties similar to ginseng. Because of the high medicinal value of Reishi, it is wide-used in many herbal nutritional therapies, and this for good reasons. Supplements are available in health food stores as powders, capsules, teas, and extracts. A dosage of 500 mg two to three times a day is the standard recommendation. -
Dong Quai
Dong Quai is an aromatic chinese herbal remedy made from the root of angelica sinensis, which is growing at high altitudes in China, Korea and Japan. The root has a strong smell and a sweet taste. The flowers of dong quai are greenish-white.
Dong Quai is known as a tonic herb for women and is used by women in the treatment of female disorders such as premenstrual syndrome, menstrual cramps and to help them with menopause. Especially in combination with other herbs, dong quai is very effective for menopausal and menstrual difficulties. Chinese women have used this herb to regulate the menstrual cycle for centuries.
The compounds that are responsible for medicinal actions of dong quai include various coumarins and flavonoids. Some of them stimulate the central nervous system and let this herb act as a mild energizer.
Dong quai is considered to be of very low toxicity, but it may cause some fair-skinned persons to become more sensitive to sunlight. It should also not be taken in large quantities by pregnant women.
Dong quai's health benefits made it famous as "the female ginseng", because it supports female reproductive system in much the same way that ginseng supports the male reproductive system. It is also commonly described as the supreme "womanÂ’s herb", and as the "queen of Chinese herbs". Dong quai is found in numerous general tonic formulations as part of the blood-building component of the formula. Both men and women benefit from strong blood enabled by Dong quai. -

last time when young every other day oso drink dong chong cao, pao shen.....
when mom not looking, i pour into the pot of plant

I drink plain water lor.
Eat...depends leh..
I dun take caffeine..coz my gastric cant take it.
I surf net before gg to bed lor..but even if i try to sleep early..I will toss and turn till 4 plus before i finally fall asleep. -

my mum say pao shen not cheap, cannot waste.
And she manage to get rid of the smell..so I always finish it.
I ever drank the seahorse thingy..and threw up 4 times..even threw up the gastric juices..very jialat..doc said it could be too fishy or oily I can't take it. -
