how to treat fin rot in goldfishes ?

  i noticed massive fin rot because i could find fin fragments even when i scooped out small amts of water and on closer inspection of the tank's water i could find even more fragments which i suspect came from the larger of the goldfishes.
  
  how do i help? plus i noticed some red streaks mostly on the larger fishes that coincidentally have a redder patch on their heads.
  
  mine look something like this. although they vary in the redness of the red patch ( i cant remember waht's the name of that part)

  hi bissy,
  most likely the water dirty tats why their fins rotting...
  chg the water n put the fin rot medi...
  the rest of the prob, as usual.. i wld reco u the same...
  buy the methylene blue..
  it works for almost everything...

  it din work so well for mi... tats why i always reco u to go buy the medi instead..
  im not so sure abt the salt bath.. u can try if ur ardy experience w it... but it will take another 10days!!

  the lastime i mention b4, then like too little amt..
  cornyfish did teach the method n amt to use rite??

  so i replied " no it's green"
  
  and she was so enthu abt seeing me add the soln and even did voice overs for the fishes like " ah...the water is turning blue!! help!! "

  Methylene Blue, methylthionine chloride or 3,7-bis(dimethylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium chloride is a dark-green, crystalline compound, C16H18ClN3S, that dissolves in water to form a deep-blue solution.   there's another solution i found on from the product list on the manual, and there's another chemical specifically for fungal rot..
  
  it's having blues..

  no mah. u guys tell me to buy met blue so i buy loh. her shop cluttered until u can fall over 6 species of fishes.
  
  read the manual. met blue is fine for most stuff..

  ok how long to keep the fishes in met blue ??
  
  and when changing water it is still gradual change right>
  
  anyway, 1 of the new gouramis i bought died.
