Earthquake jolts Banda Aceh
JAKARTA - A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's tsunami-ravaged Aceh province on Friday, forcing residents to flee their homes but inflicting no damage, seismologist and witnesses said.
The quake, centred 75km west of Banda Aceh beneath the Indian Ocean, struck at 9.37am local time, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said in Jakarta.
Witnesses said that many residents ran out into the streets as the quake jolted the city for about 25 seconds.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific 'Ring of Fire'. -- AP -
