'Ji Sheng Yu, He Sheng Liang' basically is used to describe a person's despair and frustrations. During the three kingdoms, in the Wu State, there was a general named Zhou Yu who was extremely talented. In the historical based novel by Lu Guangzhong., Zhou Yu was constantly outwitted by Zhuge Liang, and he was described by Lu Guangzhong to quote the lines 'chang tian ah chang tian, ji sheng yu, he sheng liang?' okie thx Nelstar hehe i lesson learned. But seriously lah to use those "proverb" in either conversation or written essay is really funny. ok.. as for mine, they are both derive from san guo yan yi.. i wun go into the story but yi ge yuan da yi ge yuan ai means that, one party is willing to take the beating, another party is willing to be the one hitting. for eg, if we see a guy having an unreasonable GF but they are still together, we can use the proverb here.Originally posted by BabyLover:wah chim, can explain it out also?
as for pei le fu ren you zhe bing, it means that u have lost multiple things in an event. eg gambling have made me bankrupt and my family broken, this time its really pei le fu........ there is oso a similar one which is "tou ji bu zhao shi ba mi" but its used a little differently. -

chen men shi huo, yang ji chi yu.
it means that if the gates of the castle is on fire, even the fishes in the pond would be affected- as in if someone close to you is in trouble you would too be implicated. a more commonly heard version is "chi yu zhi yang" -

Unable to face folks in Jiang Dong. Meant that someone is unable to face their folks back home after a failure. This was a famous quote by Xiang Yu. -
'Ling ke yu sui bu ke wa quan'
Usually meant that you rather lose something then to let someone have it.

Means literally 'search until your metal shoe is torn but still cant find, but it appears for you effortlessly when you dont search'
Usually used to describe how easily things/jobs/assignments/people etc appear after you stop searching for them. -
