In the movie, all the cars AE86, EvoIII.... have their steering wheel on the right.
But toward the last scene, Ann Suzuki (Natsuki Mogi) got off her sugar daddy car on the right side. Meaning driver is on the left.

As for the mercedes benz issues, they're considered cars more for the rich and high status, their import rules also allow for the use of left side drives.
