In short, Turtle soup taste GREAT!! These "turtles" in the turtle soup are not those turtles you see in zoo or those that lay eggs on the beach for goodness sake.
The meat in the "turtle soup" are from Terapin, fresh water tortoise farmed for food.
If you are disgusted by how these terapins are killed, wait till you hear about the pig, chicken, cows, sheep, lamb, ducks, frogs.
pigs - slaughtered with butcher knife, sometimes electricuted
chicken and ducks - a slash on the throat, quick and easy.
cows - butchered.
sheep and lamb - slash on throat.
frogs - one hit on the haead, one chopping across belly.

Oh how I love tutle soup... I remember the shop at Geylang area, they even have their eggs... It is so delicious... Almost every week must ear, but for eight year now I haven't eaten one ... That because one night my daughter and I watch the Discovery Channel and they show how the turtles were slaughtered for the food, shell and everything... My daughter then, 10 years old asked me can stop eating turtle soup or not.... I promised her and so haven't eat it at all.... ya, not easy, sometime see people eat, saliver drip down leh, but hor a promised is a promised... by the way, the one at Hong Lim, it very nice also,it comes with yam rice.. but becareful.. once I ate there, I got a fishing hook ( small size one ), it was at my throat already ... lucky I managed to take it out and return to the hawker, guess what he do ?? He took the hook from me and throw right into the dustbin and said, " bo bian, already wash so clean and careful already still got hook, not the first time already". Not even a word of apology. I didn't blame him but continue to eat there lor, the soup was really the factor.... So all the soup lover out there, becareful when you eat turtle soup, you never know when you can be hooked !!! turtle soup is very nice. it is actually the same as eating any other food. it is the turtle that is causing all the 'puking'.

haha.. indeed nt easy.. becos its veri hard to resist urself nt to eat such good food.. Mi too like e yam rice.. yummy.. but i didnt encounter e incident of e hook le.. u too suay izzit? lol.. it is better not to watch or if possible, know, how the dish is cooked. how do we slaughter poultry? you can hear them 'crying' before they are slaughtered. is that not equally cruel? actually it is the same. like i said the only difference lies with the fact that it is a turtle, something we dont normally eat.Originally posted by ORIGAMIST:Oh how I love tutle soup... Ya la.. many time tot of eating it when I saw it.. The last was at Jln Beseh, wah pian, there got so many stall, must really control very hard.. now not so bad already lar.... don't take turtle can always take other soup ma ... talk about this, do you know there is a shop in Katong that cook turtle in all styles, like fried, boil, steam etc .... That's one shop I love to go ... sorry can't remember the name of the shop or whether it is still there...
