I've just discovered this thread.
My encounter with UTR:
* First visit to Thomson Plaza in lower sec when my atas classmates took me to Swenson's for ice-cream (first time!). Now I still buy pet food from the Thomson Plaza's cramped pet shop.
* Used to stay over regularly at brother's ex-gf's house at Jln Leban during JC time, when bro went sailing;
loved the popiah at the hawker ctr; char kueh teow was good but can't beat the Lakeview branch's.
* Met my then bf who lived at Sin Ming - our weekly cycling would inevitably end at some food/drinks outlets at Lakeside, Jln Leban, Sin Ming, Shunfu or AMK.
The old Lakeside hawker centre had my favourite char kueh teow, and chok was nice too, and there used to be this drink stall that plays loud disco music every night.
Now I visit PILs at Sin Ming every week, and live a few streets away. Which category do I fall in?

I've added both of you.
I didn't use the BK playground Nor do I remember the coffee house. Thomosn Plaza still looks the same except for 'Fairprice Town', which visually clashes with the rest of the mall's interior.
Edo Sushi has disappeared now. I remember havinng dinner there a couple of times and it was nearest place where I could order salmon belly.
Aquapet has that smell of pet food (or what product does it resemble?), posters are plastered everywhere and I like that. You don't find such a shop often these days. -
*@$^%# Thai Express is opening a branch at Thomson Plaza, where Edo once stood.
I hope everyone realises that Jai Thai which is a few metres away is so much better that the former move out in 3 months.

Ramu's has closed.
Update: It has re-opened with a new chef and an expanded menu and is now called 'Herbs & Spices'. Prices are up...I think it's partly to cover for the license to sell alcohol. -
Prata Cafe has closed down and an Indonesian outlet called Sari Indo has opened in its place. It isn't drawing the crowds either though. The Tong Shui place opens 6 p.m. now instead of 12 noon.

Some updates:
The Kolo Mee shop has closed,
The Fish Room has become a massage parlour,
There's a Starbucks outlet outside Thomson Plaza,
A Korean food stall has opened in the food court inside
Pho 24 has a branch along UTR.
Crab Shack is undergoing renovations and will reopen on 1 Feb.
The Sari Indo place doesn't seem to be doing too badly now. -
Jai Thai in Thomson undergoing reno or closed down liao leh.... now they open one stall in the food court.... i really like their food...
Go thomson eat lunch very often since i work in toa payoh hehe... some of the favourites are:
1) Jai Thai
2) Fish soup at Jalan Leban Hawker
3) Ivins, which now move to Jalan Leban
4) Long House the duck rice, fried banana fritters
5) Teochew Porridge at a Sin Ming coffeeshop and the toasted bread there is DAMN NICE, damn cheap and nice (i know how to drive there but dun know what is the address haha)
6) Kiam Chye Duck Soup and Bak Kut Teh at a Sin Ming Coffeeshop also haha
I am not a fan of anything particular in Shunfu Market but my colleagues seem to like what Chocolat and Spice or what lah.... I tried Auntie Kim's but it was really expensive for the kind of standard. -
there's a korean restaurant next to the chicken rice stall. it's nice to eat

i rmb got one nice porridge stall at the now demolished lakeview market hawker centre. the uncle is a skinhead man.
n one stall there also has good mee goreng. it has fried potato pieces in it
i wonder where they moved to? -
I used to love that kiam chye ark, but the stallowners must have changed the recipe after Makansutra commented that it wasn't sour enough. The sourness is too much for me now.
The fish porridge stall moved to Shunfu Mart but I'm not sure if it's still in business. The back row of stalls is often like a ghost town now compared to the row closer to the road. The noodle-and-popiah stall in the corner sell cheap and nice items.
As for the Korean place, are you refering to Auntie Kim's along UTR, or the stall in the food court (which I remember to be a few places away from Loy Kee)? -

Me a Bishan resident and lunch at thomson once a week since i work nearby too. So if there is anyone meeting up to eat there, just give me a shout. Great food!
