I remember having to walk through the estate to get to thomson rise estate after playing basket ball at the CC.. also used to catch the bus from Thomson plaza and stop just across from Lakeview and walk home... that was after swensens, a good friend and I used to go there once a week and share an earthquake before walking back home.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:Shunfu
I vaguely remember the black beetle...Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I still remember a huge rain tree at the rear carpark, with a playground under it. And when we had classes in the containers, we could sometimes see the squatters outside, going about their business topless (the men). All that ended with that lawsuit in 1997 (IIRC).
And memories of the Belgian priest in the black Beetle, Fr Louis Fossion.![]()
If you're game for a little cycling to work off the ghee after the outing, why not?Originally posted by Pitot:its been a long time since i have been back.
i only go back to my gandma's once in a while. i think i will be back for the prata outing and maybe explore more when i am back for CNY.![]()
I wonder why I didn't eaten more often at Swensen's, when it was a tad better.Originally posted by breytonhartge:I remember having to walk through the estate to get to thomson rise estate after playing basket ball at the CC.. also used to catch the bus from Thomson plaza and stop just across from Lakeview and walk home... that was after swensens, a good friend and I used to go there once a week and share an earthquake before walking back home.
My aunty used to live in shunfu. would stop by there almost everyday after coming back from JC for yummy food. Family is peranakan.![]()
I don't remember Milano's being thereOriginally posted by Meia Gisborn:For a while, wasn't there a Milano's Pizza at Thomson Plaza? If I recall, it was on the first floor--you'd take the outside stairs on the south of the building (across from the power substation) to the first floor, and it was right there on the left after you entered.
Hey, are there many of us Peranakans in sg forums?Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I wonder why I didn't eaten more often at Swensen's, when it was a tad better.Doesn't matter now, there's homemade ice-cream at Sin Ming Plaza. I'm Peranakan too.
There was once a Domino's outlet across the corridor from KFC...it failed miserably.![]()

How bad has swensens gotten, the tuna melt used to be really nice.
Have to go try the homemade Ice cream when I get back... domino's in sg has never really done well, it used to be really good for a while. They make pretty good pizza's down under.
I really must go to Icekimo when I get back... ever tried the horlicks icecream? I have a nutelly gelati here made by cibo. Very very yummy. Sounds like a good place to cool down.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I haven't checked since this thread expired loooong ago.http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=116848. I should start another one. Come to think of it, I haven't had satay babi for a while.
Swenson's soup has gone pretty urrgh...I can get similar stuff in a hawker centre. Only the sandwiches are worth eating now. And I can 2 enormous scoops from Icekimo for a small premium over a single scoop from Swenson's.They've got black sesame, Horlicks, Milo, Nutella, D24, blueberry cheesecake, chempedak, jasmine and lime, among others.
The only pizza chains left here seem to be Pizza Hut and Canadian, with a few small players...heck, someone enlighten me if the Shakey's/Denny's (can't remember which it is!) in Chinatown is still around!
Oh, and the French crêpe place at Thomson Imperial Court where that obnoxious teacher was thrown out has closed for good.

What a shame. Are there any more crepe places in sg? So is pizza hut still going strong or have people just gotten over pizzas in sg?
Don't even talk about satay babi... i have not had satay anything for such as long time. What they call satay here I call junk. Its that bad.
You're making me really drool over the food. I miss it. Have a good weekend!
I am hoping to return around late feb, early march, work permitting....Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I had the Horlicks flavour yesterday, and I love the sweet taste. When are you returning? The shop will be renovated this coming week (didn't pay attention to the exact period though).
Pizza Hut's still going strong, probably because it's available for delivery. I haven't seen any other places specialising in crêpe...prata doesn't count.
wah. now I have to travel even further... sigh.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:If you remember Ramu's Curry (it used to be in that row of shophouses where PRata House is), it's moved to 198 Yio Chu Kang Road. I'd forgotten how much I missed the food until my dad took us there.
Yeah, close to the carpark behind NTUC Fairprice.Originally posted by breytonhartge:wasn't there a milano's pizza at Bishan? near Junction 8?
