Most team managers tend to overlook Didier, they think he is passed it. But I disagree, I still think he has what it takes to be World Champ again. He just needs to be in the right team, in the right car and right environment. He has never lost is incredible speed and motivation. Lately he has had a lot of bad luck and has been in crappy teams like Skoda and SEAT who were unable to provide him with a competitive car. With Peugeot he had pure bad luck. -

Indian officials have confirmed they are looking into the possibility of hosting an F1 street race.
The country had initially planned to build a state-of-the-art track at Hyderabad. But these proposals were cancelled when the projected costs spiralled out of control.
The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India has not been discouraged, however, and is now investigating the possibility of holding a Monaco-style street event.
Consultant Sanjay Sharmi confirmed: “Considering the exorbitant costs involved in building a F1 track, no government is likely to come ahead.
“So now we are looking at the Monaco Grand Prix mode, in which the day-to-day public roads are converted into tracks. If we consider the other economic benefits we can imagine the gain to the country.”

Christijan Albers will drive for Minardi in 2005, the team has confirmed.
Albers was formally unveiled by his new team at an Amsterdam press conference at lunchtime on Thursday.
Team boss Paul Stoddart said: “We are very pleased to be able to announce Christijan as one of our two race drivers for 2005.
“He has always been a naturally quick driver, but it is clear there is now an added maturity and focus with that speed.
"In short, we believe he is absolutely ready for Formula 1, and we fully expect him to surprise a few people this coming season, particularly since Minardi also has ambitious plans.
"From a personal point of view, it is very gratifying to see a number of Dutch companies getting behind a talented young driver in order to help him take that final, and most difficult, step to the highest level of motor racing.
"Knowing Christijan as I do, I’m certain he will reward the faith placed in him.”
The 25-year-old has raced in German touring cars for the past four years but has always wanted to return to single-seaters.
He has tested for both Minardi and Jordan in the past six weeks. He was also Minardi's reserve driver in 2001 and 2002.
The identity of Albers' team-mate is still undecided - but Stoddart hinted recently that he would like to give 2004 driver Zsolt Baumgartner a second chance. -

Robby Gordon leads the Paris-Dakar Rally in a VW Touareg after Stage 4. Colin McRae took the lead in the Nissan pick-up yesterday but has slipped back to 10th spot.
Other notable participants include Simon Jean-Joseph (Mercedes), Ari Vatanen (Nissan), former F1 driver Ukyo Katayama (Toyota) and Juha Kankkunen (VW).
The highlights will be on Star Sports (Ch 24) at 1.30pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday. -
Meanwhile, gabe will be participating in the Por Las Pampas Rally from March 5-12. He will have former 2-time WRC co-driver champion Tiziano Siviero, who is co-piloting Vatanen in this year's Paris Dakar Rally, as his navigator.

seems like a fight between VW n Nissan this year, what with... damn. Was gonna say mitsu's motorsports program in shambles... but I just checked the standings. Apparently Nissan doesn't quite figure into the Equation. It's really a fight between the VWs n the Mitsus. Touaregs vs the Pajero Evos.

Bikes on a halt, Gordon impresses!
The first African stage of the Telefonica Dakar 2005 ended up in a long liaison for the bikers after the short 123km special was cancelled due to heavy fog. Meanwhile on four wheels, in better conditions, Robby Gordon clinched his second Dakar victory ahead of Peterhansel, proving once again how well he had adapted to the rally and how impressive his Volkswagen Race Touareg was. In the truck race, Vladimir Tchaguine is already on top of the leader board.
The rally left Europe and Spain under beautiful sunny conditions, but for the start of the first real African stage, the weather had completely changed with heavy fog on the Rabat area. Impossible in the early hours of the day for the helicopters to take off (including the medical helicopters) and for the bikers to compete in perfect security a special that would have also been dangerous because of the very poor visibility! Safety being the key issue on the rallyÂ… The same incident had already happened back in 1994 when the conditions forced the organisers to also cancel a special.
All bikers were therefore asked to head to CP 1 (km 63) nice and easily in a liaison before using a normal asphalt road all the way to the Agadir bivouac. Certainly a big disappointment for overall leader David Frétigné (YAM – n°12) who would have gone through a nice first test against the KTM armada.
Two and a half hours later, the fog had disappeared and the weather was perfect for the cars to take off for their 123km special. The first man to take off was yesterday’s special winner Colin McRae, but the Scotsman was rapidly caught by his main race contenders. At CP1 (km 63), the best time was for the ever-surprising Robby Gordon (VW – n°317). For his very first Dakar and in an impressive Volkswagen Race Touareg, the US driver (who left in 5th spot) flew to special victory, clocking best times at both the second CP (km 8
and the finish line. Gordon clinches his second win on the rally after the Barcelona super special although this one is way more significant on a longer distance and in real Dakar rally conditions. The former NASCAR racer who had overtaken De Villiers (NIS – 314) early in the race, could have done even better if he hadn’t been forced to remain behind Ari Vatanen’s Nissan (n°311) during the last 20kms of the special where overtaking became very tricky.
Gordon’s closest rival on the day was last year’s winner Stephane Peterhansel (MIT – n°306), finishing just under a minute behind.
After the Nissan show in yesterday’s Granada special with 3 Pickups in the leading four, it was Volkswagen’s turn to impress with their four Touaregs in the leading seven cars. Bruno Saby (VW – n°307) captured third spot while Jutta Kleinschmidt (VW – n°310) finished fifth and Juha Kankkunen (VW – n°313) seventh. And to add to the German brand’s excellent day, Robby Gordon claimed the new overall leadership with a 1” lead on Peterhansel.
In the truck race, Vladimir Tchaguine (KAM – n°515) showed that he was already well in shape for a fifth triumph on the Dakar. The Russian driver clinched the special with a 1’34” advantage on Gerard De Rooy (DAF – n°516) and 1’57” on team mate Firdaus Kabirov (n°520). After a smooth start to the race in Europe, Tchaguine takes command of the overall. -

Andy Caldecott won the 5th Stage of the motorbike catagory riding a KTM after fog caused the cancellation of yesterday's competitive stage. -
with many days to go still, wonder who would ultimately win it? McRae is in contention but Gordon is not to be overlooked. and then there's last year's winner in his Pajero Evo...

I hope it won't be a Mitsubishi driver. Mitsubishi have won the rally too many times. They are the "Ferrari's" of the rally-raid world, dominating almost every rally.
