  TAXI fares could soon be raised in a move aimed at improving cabbies' income and at retaining drivers.

  There is speculation that market leaders Comfort and CityCab are planning an increase in the flagdown fare to S$3.80, with the meter adding 30 cents for every 400m travelled.....

  haha... lure carrots? Siao. Mai lai. everyone knows the REAL problem for comfuck / Citicab is not by increasing the fare to $3.80.... or $3.90 or $4.00

  You need to qualify that rental inorder to command a higher flag down fare, given a lower diesel price, TDs should be able to save 3 to 4 dollars per day.

  The current economy situation is not flavourable for any movement in pricing for anything, property and stock are down, so are people's wages against inflation and by benchmarking the recently govt announced public servant bonus at 0.8month, it is a far cry from those years of 2 to 4 months. However, Singapore, being well prepared are able to withstand the economy downturn pressure, even with oil sliding down to 2009 pricing, we are still able to hold fort on our servicing, high tech and sci industry, altho manufacturing has not being doing well, especially so in electronic sectors. And that is also why our currency have remain strong against many of our Asia cities, good for travelling. And due to our strong and stable currency, more people are flocking into our city looking for work and some for conning purposes, chao ang mo from europe are in Q, however our immigrant policy had tilted since the last election, the govt are now more stringent on EP, SP, WP, PR and even new citizenship. With this background, going forward for Taxi industries, in term of drivers concern, from a holistic view rather than individual, we will see 3 points to build on 1. Lesser powered cabs on the road 2. An aging TD local resident 3. More stringent rules and regulation in plying singapore road 1. As I said before, future cab coming into the industrial will be of lower hp so as to prevent accident with more time to stop rather than end up in swimming pool, canal or knock into shophouses, kopitiam etc etc.. 2. A demograhpic issue, with an aging population, naturally, our mature drivers will also growing older altho still young at heart, my ex chief should be near 50yo by now, and I am going into my 60s. And bear in mind this forum is already few years old...therefore, time await no one, we must truly admit that we are aging, the youngs might be coming, but not much take up, as most youngs are more afluent and hv better opportunity in our tight labour market economy. Moreover, who want their son to be TD, nor you or me..tio bo? Nevertheless, this is a problem that even the Govt is unable to solve, so all we can do it, take note. 3. With technology, more stringent fines and summons will be in focus, driver would have to be careful, drive slower which can at time translate into lower income, as time is $$ when you are plying on the road.
