Taxi passengers, especially those who sit in the backseat, will be reminded to wear their seatbelts through a campaign launched by the Traffic Police, Singapore Road Safety Council and Liberty Insurance on Tuesday. All 16,000 ComfortDelGro taxis now have the seatbelts carrying safety messages installed in them.
The Traffic Police's commanding officer for road safety, Deputy Superintendent Soh Wan Khuan noted that many backseat passengers, compared to those who sit in front, are not in the habit of belting up. He added that wearing seatbelts saves backseat passengers especially because they do not have airbags for protection in the case of an accident
Mr Martin Bridger, chief executive of Liberty Insurance, said that with the recent slew of fatalities on Singapore roads, this campaign is "timely" to reinforce the importance of wearing seatbelts.
"Road traffic deaths and injuries are fast becoming a growing global epidemic. Global statistics show that every six seconds, someone is killed or injured on the world's roads," he said.
Tia gong Liberty Insurance insured all CDG taxi?...
Marketing gimmicks lah.....misleading title....should put NEW SEAT BELT COVER lah!!!!
hehehe..click the likes button.
My auto seat belt better lah
This is preventive safety measure, not proactive measure by TP, TP in the news had already said, accident are fast becoming a major concern as it is getting higher, So, what is TP going to do other than asking people to put on safety belt and let the accidents go on increasing???
Last year, the ferrari case, all involved are on seat belts...out of 4, 3 gone?? seat belt or fast speed or traffic problem??
The question therefore does not lies in seat belt, which is a safety features, the question is then to ask the TP commissioner is
WHAT THE FARK ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH ALL THESE INCREMENT OF ACCIDENTS ON THE ROAD?
are cdg going to install air-bag?
The last meeting said, no, air bag is an option, because the laws does not require vehicle to have airbags, bus, lorry, van... so on do not hv airbags, even private car do not required it unless if the makers wish to put it in to make the car more attractive.
It had become a accessories rather than a must. Study also shown that airbags is good on high impact, and some cases, suffocated a driver or pax after an accident. And there cases whereby airbag balloon out of just a small jam brake putting the driver out of vision and even heart attacked
So, if the laws does no require it, why cdg go spent the money for what? shareholders fully agreed, chopped and signed.
Next, they discussed about the need for driver guards....
LTA is also looking at parachute for motorcycle, which are the major nos of death on the road per year, they are looking at a parachute that will inject on impact, like fighter plane,
This will preventing the motorcyclist from skidding or crashed on the floor on head on into other thing. That LTA officer said, is for our info only.
If success, they may apply it to driver as an option, meaning you might get ejected off from your taxi upon impact.
