Hi bros, I'll be hitting the roads soon, sim kia kia but no choice got to lay food on the table for family. I'm very worried if I'm not familiar with roads and kena whack from passengers. So is it worthwhile to invest in a GPS? I'm only hiring the Toyota Crown cos of the incentives comfort gives to newcomers. No choice, little bit of money also good now that I've been retrenched for quite sometime. All the big bros out there, pls advise, thanks alot
Good la .... but u take longer to learn the routes .
If u learn the ways many learnt , thru the traditional ways , i think u adept faster that way .
Up to you la ..... i am primary school standard , Pri 4 .... i dun need one of this gadget , they only confused me . Hahahahah
If u want to put one inside the cab just to standby , not a bad idea .
maybe what many user said that .... if can , try the traditionals ways of learning the routes , if die die still dunno ...then GPS .
I think that oso will improve little bit better .
But i would not show the GPS to customer to tell them that i dunno the routes well .
I would rather :" Can u guide me the route , if u know ? Cos i am new , 3 days on the road onlu , i am not too good in this area ."
Also not a bad way to break the ice for a new conversation .
it's all about you , your self confidence .
Must have confident la .... a little bit of confident do u good .
Poolman tai loh, thanks again! I think you are quite right also lah, must have confidence, Me lau uncle actually, retrenched hard to get jobs, old man no 1 wants. Hope to be cabby till children can suppport family lah, salted veg life. Really appreciate ur advice.
Just to share.
I've been using a GPS since I started in Mar 2009 and is more good than bad to use one.
It directed me well 'most of the time', but you still need a good command of major roads because a few times it misguided me. I felt not right, stop somewhere safe and refer to the good old traditional street directory. Another thing is when to are close to your destination, there are always shorter route than those directed by the GPS like those avenues and lorongs. I will ask the pax if I am going to turn before certain point as shown in the GPS and sometimes pax knows better shortcut. We learn from all sources. Btw, I am using Garmin.
Hi bro, thanks for sharing. I have the same sentiments too. Though it may not be 100% accurate, for new driver like myself, the GPS helps. I'm still trying hard to get familiarize with the different roads as I don't drive much before becoming a cabby. Made a few wrong turns here and there, no choice, gave pax discounts or take whatever they claimed are the usual fare. I'm still working hard on this.
I'm also using Garmin. Cheers!
