Teen taxi thieves nabbed
Sep 2, 2009
TWO youth who robbed a taxi driver on Tuesday morning were arrested about an hour later.
The 56-year-old taxi driver had stopped his taxi at around 4.10am to drop the 17 and 19-year-old suspects along Upper Bukit Timah Road, opposite Bukit Timah Plaza, after picking them up at Zouk Disco.
One of the youths told the driver that he had dropped some coins under the seat. As the driver was looking for the coins, the second suspect grabbed the driver's wallet. Both suspects then fled the taxi towards King Albert Park.
At about 5am, police found the 19-year-old suspect along Bukit Timah Road outside King Albert Park. They found the younger suspect at the basement carpark of King Albert Lodge.
The taxi driver's wallet was also recovered.
An initial investigation revealed that both youths are also believed to be involved in a snatch theft earlier reported on Aug 27.
Both will be charged on Wednesday for the theft. If convicted, they face a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
