i try out this apps today using Iphone 2G
It links you to LTA web cam on major road and expressway

are u allowed to be using hp while driving
and we are not talking about talking on hp
but looking and poking the screen while driving -
but i was inside the mrt train :)
anyway, you can ask your passenger to check mah

first of all , many of my senior folks they hardly know anything about 3g , or navigations system , or wap , or whatever ...so iphone ?
They might thought it's an EYE-PHONE !!!!
2ndly , i cannot afford it ( i hate to Q for one anyway ) .
3rd , i will know all traffic infos thru those EMAS signboard .... the one that i rely most , cos it's the lastest , and the most accurate , plus the ETA timing , that is the most useful , cos i can show it to my paxes , : " Saw the time , ? To ECP , 45mins , u sure u want to go by this way ? "
4th , anyway , without all sorts of HI Tec , the most HiTec equipments i have , it's MY brain , use it before it goes brain dead .

i remind all new drivers , or drivers to be , if no info , always expect traffic jams on regular jam routes , always inform your paxes to expect some minor hold-up ... if no jams , it's just another bonus day for you .
It's definitely better than u tell them no jam , or u dunno at all , than kena jam .

Mentor you are right 100%...just last tuesday one of my kaki OMO new hirer toyota crown, know him.. not long just about two months. He told wow GPS that little wonder, that he brought from IT fair, really good no regarded about...generated more income. Hey... just below $200 why? you never equip one of this gadget..all probelm solved. easy like ABC.
My answer, from day one till today...Mentor and Gurus are not using why? i need to use.
Me still practising the same kung fu from here the teaching...it worked well, and no probelm about.
What is the probelm last tuesday, at about 9.am this friend called me on my handphone...Brother some probelm...Why? where is Changi Exihibition Center...my GPS shown a big plot of vancant land...Are you sure, than how your GPS you told it good... my brain can simply tell you...aiya near cargo. changi coast road.
About half and hours later sms me( text shown)...thank bro found it.
So my question how can modern technology help? how good actually is.

1 example i encounter,my pax using gps ask me turn right to clark quay from victoria st where it is a "no right turn"
I told him cannot turn right but he insist the gps says "can"
then i show him the "no right turn sign" only then he kept quiet
I felt like telling him if I kena fine by LTA will his gps help me pay or not lol
imo gps maybe helpful for private cars cos most of them are gudos
but taxi,better use the "gps" charged by brainwatts

I would not mind using this General Purpose Secretary (GPS) as my Electronic Directories as a database gadget instead of the PRINTED Mighty Minds Directory. If you pick up a PAX and your car already start moving on a busy road. No way for you to read the Printed Directory if Pax tell you an alien road name you don't know.
PAX also don't know at all and just the XX number and road name. Night time some more. All the cars on your left and right unless you find some where to park.
Worst Case - Long Sighted (Lau Hwa Yan) to read and cannot read while you drive.
At least if you have a 7 inch LCD GPS - with the most updated map from SLA license - you can use your finger and Poke Poke Poke a few alphabet ... phrase intelligent.
You get there. If you do not have a good memory and want a GPS, get a good one with the best Maps and systems.
Of course don't rely on this GPS.
GPS has no brain - it tell you to turn ( like what Teolk experience with his PAX insistence) when there is no U turn sign. Because it is relying on calculation base on it's database. If you rely on the GPS instruction - Big problems.
Treat it as your Electronic Dictionary or Database and turn it off.

no , u don't drive that way ....
U first start off as " where is the location ? " before u move off ....
If cannot figure out the location , one must stop at a safety place , non-obstruction location , to find the exact location before moving off .
U don't move off without knowing which way to go .

Pool, i understand. But sometime you might pick up a Pax on a busy road by the road side where you have no time to ask....especially in town at busy road.....
i am just imagining a scenario... not at a taxi stand...

tan, day shift no problem. sure kena red light at traffic junction. after using the mighty minds so long, usually takes me 10-15 secs to locate the destination. cos usually if need to see street directory means ulu minor road. most times already know the major road on which map number. my first mighty minds street directory used until like salted fish. new one sui sui, seldom need to touch oredy. i think GPS more suitable for nite shift. but then again nite shift is all about 1) sending people home, no problem then, bcos they know the best way oredy. 2) clubs, ktv, etc, most of which are in well-known locations, so u dun really need a GPS, do u? my guess, is that one might use it for maybe 6 months, after that your experienced brain gps automatically kicks in. dun need any other gadget. become $399 white elephant after that. even if u are a millionaire driver, like poolie, just think, $399 is what u earn from 3-4 days of taxi driving. why waste bullet?

licence to use is until 30 June 2010 only hor. after that click how many times oso won't start. anyone tried installing the DIGImap into a smartphone? thinking of getting samsung omnia 2 and installing it although the omnia 2 already comes with gps software, cos what i need is maps, not gps. if fast then can ditch the hardcopy mighty mind.

ktck, i tried it on laptop window xp. key in any postal code or keywords, very fast. If click onto the address and it show the Map Page but it doesn't highlight the POINT of the street. So you have to use your very sharp eye to see the exact location. You know sometime that road or street might be very short and it hide somewhere. If it don't point to the exact location and morover if you use Handphone type..... VERY HARD TO SEE...

tan-san, i got it installed on my desktop n latop too. same old, same old. that's y i wanna try on hp. omnia 2 3.7" screen quite big wor. if zoom function fast...
maybe u r rite. on my kohjinsha umpc 7" screen oredy quite small. must zoom.

i got install it on my nokia E65 mobile phone, must zoom in then can see properly. if install into a 10inch netbook should be okay :)
on my Iphone i use google map which is way better,

Ok...what happen today.
after completed one pax alighted at pasir panjang road chinese temple.
MDT got one job offer...5 pasir panjang road, lobby w.
Aiya sure can...pressed 7 min abit kiasu gave allowance.
Pressed the map...indicator arrow directed pasir panjang one straight line pasir panjang distripark could it be the lobby, headed there knn came with a number 151 and above.
O salah oreally headed out the road, U turn back to pasir panjang toward city. on my right a Labrador a few blocks wow started with 3, So control room called me... hey where are you...passenger making noise aiya already reached no probelm 2 second.
Ooph no number 5...so how. pressed the map again directed toward my left direction same pasir panjang distripark...knn what happen?
Control room called again...only two block there...where knn.
than out the main road slowly run along the pasir panjang power station...there you are no 5 stated there, turned left and picked the ang mo...he is making noise to the control room, what the hell !!!are you doing... this is not the first time and many times, and many of your company cabbies loss their way...could there be something better to fix up rather than this probelm alway happen.
So GPS really goood...try it than you know.
My solution...change the data base...let the operator know...should be no5 pasir panjang road, turn left after pasir panjang power station, lobby w.
What GPS...the next cabby can never be wrong after taking this job next time, after my input.

this blk 5 always got bookings one, so must know. rental block a lot of ang mohs. poolie sure know cos last time worked nearby (psa bldg). i last time see it everday from alexandra distripark & technopark oso. david oso know cos everytime wait at the hawker centre near block 3x at labrador villa road. i think cabbies staying in the west more familiar. i got booking in the morning before. blk 5 to alexandra technopark blk B. about $10. ang moh dun want to walk 10mins. not raining. we need more of these people.
