By not turning on the meter, especially at night, passengers will note that your taxi is “for hire” (either for LED roof-top signs it’ll display Taxi, for non LED roof-top sign, the light will be switched on). If you zoom past them when they try to flag you down, you’ll be complained.
Theoratically speaking, as a public transport service vehicle, you’re not encouraged to use a Taxi for your own personal transportation, or treat it like a private vehicle to ferry friends or family. Therefore you’ll be required to switch on your Taxi meter when there are any type of passengers on board, be it for revenue, or non revenue.

In fact , the main reason for suppressing the meter when the vehicle got passsenger , whether or not it's family or customers , it's for INSURANCE purposes .
In the event , if u got people inside the vehicle , beside you , if they got injured during an accident , with the meter was pressed , there is evident that they are injured parties inside your vehicle when the accident occurs .
They can have datas from the meter , the time , date and the speed u are travelling at the time , plus the sudden decelerations , and the timing until the TP arrived .
so when you conveyed friends and family members and switched on the meter, will affect income tax or not?
For Comfort and CityCab , from the meter , if u pressed K1 AND K2 together , then press K1 to option 2 , then K4 , u can have those reading .
So in the event u received complaints of speedings , comfort can summon u back to test ur meter , to determine ur speeding limit at the time of complaints .
If justify , then u'll get demerit points .
Now besides the meter , now the MDT also act as a data base ( digitised type )

no la ..... IRAS don't go so into extend to claim tax from u like that , they got better things to do .

Yes...Better turn-on the on hirer... while conveying family or friends.
Once it on, meaning insurance is cover on the spot. anything happen ...you can claim the insurance, print out the receipt that is evidence.
Taxi is not for leisure and conveying family and friends.
The text book tell u those theories . Sounds like it's correct . There is more than that !
But there are fundamentals , or techical aspects of how they run a taxi companies , when u suppressed the meter , in terms of accident , u are helping them , helping yourself , to have insurance coverage . This one they don't need to teach you .
What they want is to how u can cover their ass holes .
but of course they don't encourage you to have accidents la .
Although u are covered by insurance .
i took the test this morning 9am and completed it before 12noon, i saw two persons still clicking on the computer to finish the test, then 5 or 6 persons need to re-sit the test in the afternoon. i collected the certificate and left the building. my score is not perfect after burning mid-night oil till 2am. Sigh
Now passed got cert ? Walao eh ..... can get a good job after taxi ? LOL

becoming a hirer only 6 mths contract. 6 mths can learn morning and night shift patterns. crash course. 1/2 year pass by in a flash. commit and learn faster. if by then you feel you do not like to be a slave to the car, find a relief or return the taxi and become a relief. you also have this forum 'masters' to learn from.

get the licence, try being a relief to see how for few weeks or months… if like it, all the taxi companies will have red carpet ready for you… wont scare no taxi for hirer wan… haha
someones told in ang mo kio there is a carpark full of taxis of silver and green. one day two days also can on rental. Guru you know anything? about this, no deposit just pay the rental... there you go you taxi. Even the residents with private car complaint there is no parking lot when they return back to their home.

Just like guru Alvin 500 km on one night shift, one sonata full diesel tank all gone, that about $44 and the rental about $51 total capital $95 you need the upfront.
By now he must be zzz like the lion taking the afternoon nap.
Just imagine how much will be his collection for the 500km run.
