hi all seniors and friends in the forum.
I was surprise that actually i am able to find such a informative forum about taxi driving ...i am glad i found it..
I recently just pass my Etest and am waiting for the issuing of the TDVL , was told to be on the 4th May 2009.
Just asking seniors here for some advice, insights and any information that can help me as a newbie.
Was pondering whether to be a relief driver first or straight hirer, did a check with Premier and was quite interested in their new NO CONTRACTscheme for new guys.
Anyway, i am looking for a hirer in the West, i stay in Ghim Moh. I am looking to drive 4pm to 4pm night shift, Prebably Silver cab and auto car. any hirer interested for discussion, please PM me
thank you
you mean 4pm to 4am?
i am about to register for the E-course, any tips for me?
hi bro ALN
thanks for the advice...yes . i agreed.but i just worried if its diffcult to get a hirer..i heard that alot of hirer do not like to rent to new drivers...
but i will try first though....
i am also worried abt if i can survive it to make a living, considering seeing the number of empty cabs on the roads, it does make me worried.. i am targeting 100-120 nett from driving form 4pm to 4am..do you think its acheivable??
Any tips for newbies like me ?
many thanks
hello newguy , Ghim Moh , near the hawker centre , there is a Comfort taxi kisok , just opp.the bus terminal ? There is an office by the main road , go and place your names there ..... those online-i-cannot Uncle , usually they write in a file provided by the staffs .....
Ghim Moh taxi kiosk is the kisok , like a HQ cater for the west side .
Not only u can place your name , u can also find hirers looking for relief .
Members from Clementi goes to the kiosk at Clementi Ave 1 , Ghim Moh cater for commonwealth area , holland area , tiong bahru , Bukit Merah area drivers ... etc .
Members from Jurong , CCK , Bt Batok , they go to the kiosk located at Jurong East St 31 .
U have the Ghim Moh advantage , use it .
Many West side senior gathered at Ghim Moh Kiosk . It has second largest pool of members visiting them beside Sin Ming .

fuck la , just whack once u are on the steering .
1.Prepare to get fuck at least once a week by customer ... then learn from there , the hard way .
2.New bird must always first thing , remind yourself :" Must press meter ." after customer close door .
3.Always tell customer : " Sorri i am new , 3 days only ( even though u has been driving 3 months ) , which route u want me to follow ? "
4.Prepare lots of $1 coin and some lose change of coins , dun expect tippings .
5.Prepare numerous $2 and $10 ..... like total $200 in all , i do that , sometimes more .
6.Make sure there is a street directory inside the cab .
7.make sure the diesel tank is full .
8.Reset mileage on speedometer
9.Get a moist cloth ( let the aircon absorb the water from the cloth , not from your body , aircon is dry agent )
10.5 minutes b4 moving out , de-dust the rubber mate a bit , clean the steerings and dash board if dusty . Make use of the moist cloth shine up all mirrors .
Last very important ......
Make sure u go one around the vehicle , and make sure the vehicle is in one piece , no dent and scratch left undone from previous driver .
Any dent and damage , left uncheck , once the hirer takeover your shift , and he found out the damage and dent , it's your problem .
Not need thank me , don't tell me not useful . Me veteran liao in Sgforum taxi forum . hohohoohahahahah
hi poolman bro
thanks for the reply..its really helpful ..at least i know what to look out for...
and your advice is straight to the point , practical..honestly if you didnt tell me here...i wouldnt think of those preparation.and probably will end up worst..like not enough change...overlook the condtion of car etc...
and ya.. i do agree that the best is to get on the road and whack and learn through expereience, different people have different threshold for being whacked! haha..
The routes, the attitude, the looks from the pax, all these is unavoidable i suppose...
but i think i can ride it over..i am just earnning a decent lviing...give me a chance right?
then come to whether or not i can make it, looking at the number of empty cabs on the road, really make me abit worried. if i can make it..or if any seniors can share with me any tips etc.. to be on a effective optimal working schedule
Regarding the Ghim Moh Kiosk, its for Comfort only right?
thanks for your patience and guidance
Gt
i understand that u have the initial choice of taxi company .... again , let me go thru with u the meaning of " Pool of players " .
Comfort & Citycab has a pool of at least 15,000 to 20,000 taxis on the road each day .
Silver only got 2,000 , under 4,000 i know .
SMART under 2,000 i think .
SMRT got only about under 3,000 .
TransCab is 3rd most , just under 8,000 .
So .... go have a think , which pool gave you a better chance of getting a taxi ??
Of course Comfort & CityCab .
COOL
For newbird .... Comfort is a good learning ladder for routes and landmarks .
Until u familiarised with routes and landmark , then u switch also not too late .
What's the diff ?
Comfort got in-vehicle GPS ..... that map can actually help you to any destination . Although for me , not helpful , too slow ( cos i know Singapore well ) .
Other companies , quite traditional , learn even the harder way . Street directory .
With the Comfort's booking system , u learn quicker with routes and landmark .
newguy , u worried ? Worried ki lan , just whack ... got people flag for our taxi , just stop , they say where , u go where . As long as they pay you .
Reached liao , take $$$ and worried everything later .
Hungry ? Stop and go for food . Hungry how to drive ? Hungry can cause gastric disorder , and heartburn .
Thirsty , can drink inside taxi when no pax . Prepare 1.5L of water inside vehicle .
Urgent must urine , it's a must to release . Or your bladder will cause ur kidney to go haywire .
Not enuf sleep , no harm sleep for a few more hours , fatigue can caused accident . Not worth to risk when insufficient rest . Like overnight mahjong session .
Keep a distance away from the vehicle infront of you , the fucking Crown braking distance long .
Always signal your intentions early . Hazard lights is our most used signal .
Fuck la , just whack ...But be safe .
For both yourself and your family .
God bless .

u are 1000001th person to say tat , hahahahahah....
hi ALN
thanks for the info.
if drive until 1am then then only 8 hours.. at most can make 60 bucks right ?
i will have problem going home after handing over the cab...since no transport liao...
seems like this is a problem, if got to wait for hirer send me back then 5am liao...how you guys settle this problem if hirer dun stay quite near to you
true, like what you said, need to whack the road to come out with your own working schedule.i hope i can start soon to really try it out to know
just got notify from SMRT to go take photo next thurs, then the follwing Friday then can take licence still must subject to dunno what LTA clearence...
wow , got a license from SMRT meaning must drive their taxis ? Complusory ?
KNN no such ruling leh .... during my time , now maybe changed .
My time more liberal .... '
Maybe tat time i myself pay for all those course , not tied down after i passed .
SMRT now they got something like " I pay your course , u drive for me " ? For ... at least a year committment like that ?
KNN i won't do it for just $220 . Yo to be tied down for just $220 course fee , no joke and i cannot get a hirer stay nearby my home .
Ya tricked new bird into signing their vehicles ... this tricks won't work with old man like us .
Good luck .... and god blessed .
bro poolman
no la..i did not tie myself to SMRT , just that i took the TDVL course from them so they handles the issueing of licence and taking of photos.
i am still able to choose my own company....most likely will become relief first ...although now the Silvercab NO Contract scheme is quite attractive..but i just dunno the roles of a hirer if i blur blur go into it...

new guy to be a hirer ?
Wow , very encouraging ....
Well well ..... ok , i started to think of being a cabby when i was a salesman , outdoor , i was then very familar with Spore roads , and here you go , i then started off as a relief for 2nd shift . I struggle a bit ... cos my ex-job is all about highways ...end to end . Being a cabby , we like highways , but not customers , customers like cheaper routes , not faster routes ! Of course some want fast and cheap .
So i struggled , start from scratch , like any new bird , knowing Spore roads inside out doesn't mean it's a major advantage .... it does help abit .
So i was relief i never signed up as a hirer when i was new in the trade .
I will struggle even more .
So i gave myself sometime to be better , then consider from there .
Three years of experience , then i became a hirer . Still , i struggled a few months ...OMO .
It's one of my life's biggest regret , a regretful decision .
Cos OMO killed my lifestyle ....
Being a hirer means nothing , only responsibilties , a burden .
So i found a relief , driving back what i did best , 2nd shifts ...... to come to think of it , a hirer driving night shift , no diff to relief driving nighty shift .... so i quit last year .
