If Singaporeans cannot even answer my simple question , if majority of our locals don't know where it locates , do i expect an Indian National to answer that ?
This Ang Sa Lee , GPS cannot find u know ? There is a place called Ang Sa Lee , amd there is people who asked me to bring them there , using Ang Sa Lee .
I can even throw a simple road name to any Indian Nationals , where is Cuff Road ? I doubt they know , but they do walk past every Single Sunday when they are at Little India .
Think about that .... and this is just routes . Taxi driving is more than routes .
serangoon garden loh and why ish mus be 30 den can drive taxi? hmph
Bus drivers .... FT can la , fixed route ma , just memory , no need GPS also .
Coffee Shop assistant , copi tea-O , coke , cannot ? Can la .... cashier , can la FT .
Those routine jobs , desktop jobs , FT can la ..... those tree-prunters , trees are tress , follow Supervisor's instruction can liao ....
If u dunno the route , means dunno ! If with GPS , if still dunno , will surely kena fucked by commuters further .
If dunno the route , do we expect them to go by the shortest route ??
Who pay for making a big round ?
i telling myself , when i old man liao , take a cab time , if when see a foreigner drives , i so sure i will get a free trip .....
How ?
Get up the cab : " XXX Road ! "
FT driver : " Where huh ? "
Me : " I also dunno ! "
FT driver : " Go by which way ? "
Me : " Just go by anyway ."
And whichever ways he travel , he sure get from me from not going the shortest route .
I pay him first , then complain Comfort and LTA .

But my friend argue that that's being racist! Why can't FT or PR become taxi driver too?
Uneducated uncles, aunties took public buses and requested the drivers to alert them on the destinations to alight for they are illiterate. The drivers said they were not able to because they are from China and do not know the roads well in sg.
From the above we see the need to have locals to be taxi drivers.

but why must be 30 and above? ALN say mature driver more unlikely to speed... but i feel taxi driver alreadi drive like fark ....dont think can get ani worst lah
Why 30 and above ?
Of course the garmen will create a age criteria , to discourage youngster from joining the taxi line .
Youngster needs CPF to buy house .
The garmen needs youngster's CPF . Or else ..... if all youngsters never contribute CPF , then where they got the $$$ from ?
Once i picked up a Consultant from WFA , workforce agency , he told me the garmen wanted taxi drivers , but not the young one . They have plans to get rid of younger drivers , they want the younger generation to work , rather than to drive .
So instead of getting rid of them directly , the garmen overhaul the taxi fare system to discourage those burdened younger cabbies to quit for a fixed salary job .
Then it looked like it's back-fire .
What back-fire ?
The old ones cannot fit into the new fare structure , got frustrated .... and set Spore Taxi Association's adviser Seng Han Tong on fire .

Pool is super right.
Oxford, since u are such a big proponent of GPS, please tell me which model to buy and which maps to download which will lead me to Ang Sa Lee, Lam Bo Leh, Bo Leh Long, Kin Jio Ka, Chit-ko, Chup-ko, etc. It is a fact of life that many elderly customers WILL use these names as they don't know the england name. Many pax in their 20s & 30s always tell me Tanglin Halt 16 Lau or Tanglin Halt 10 Lau. Best...Chinese FT takes taxi driven by Indian FT.....Chinese FT Mah Lee Shi Ta Lu....Indian FT ????? At least our younger generation of Malay, Indian compatriots understand quite a bit of mandarin to get by. FYI not a single taxi company provides GPS in their cabs. The ones in Comfort/Citycab cabs are not GPS but simple maps.
Get a vocally-challenged (not mute) passenger asking you to send him to Ang Sa Lee and the problem is doubly compounded. Don't even bother asking the passenger to write down the destination. Literacy aside, some are hyper-sensitive and will think that you are mocking them. It really takes a lot of locally knowledge to even guess the destination.
FT, possible, just not in the near future. Take a peek at our gahmen's 5 year plan. FTs don't vote in elections. Taxi driver vocation is considered a job of last resort by many Singaporeans who want to be at least assured of a way to earn money in the worst case scenario, even those who have a job now. AND not necessarily only blue collar workers. Many PMETs are taxi drivers now. Just ask the guys in this forum. You can rant & rave but our gahmen will keep it this way in the forseeable future. Period.
