SMRT to implement S$5 surcharge for taxi rides from areas in F1 race vicinity
By Pearl Forss, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 20 September 2008 1739 hrsSMRT taxis will be implementing a S$5 surcharge per trip during the F1 Grand Prix period - for pickups in 14 locations in the race vicinity.
These include Suntec City, hotels around the Marina area, Hitachi Tower, Centennial Tower, Peninsular Excelsior Hotel, Millenia Tower and Funan DigitaLife Mall.
The surcharge will be in effect from 10.30pm to midnight on September 26 and 27, and 9.30pm to midnight on September 28.
SMRT said the move is to meet the expected increase in demand for taxis after the races.
For those taking public transport, SMRT said 960 additional train trips will be introduced on both the North-South and East-West lines on race days.

They have to "encourage" the taxi drivers to be in the area during the F1 period.
I guess all the singaporeans will be avoiding that area that night.
So, I guess money is alway a incentive to bring the taxi into the area.

ComfortDelGro's group of taxi companies, Comfort and CityCab will be imposing a S$5 location surcharge for pick up at designated taxi stands and hotels during the 2008 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX FORMULA 1 (F1) RACE from 26 to 28 September 2008. Details are as follows:

* Taxi stand (C21) at Millenia Tower
* Temp taxi stand at Centennial Tower
* Temp taxi stand at Suntec City driveway along Nicoll Highway (twds City)
* Temp taxi stand at the driveway behind The Concourse along Nicoll Highway (twds Mountbatten Rd)
* Taxi stand (C09) at Funan DigitalLife Mall
* Taxi stand (C08) at Peninsula Excelsior Hotel
* Taxi stand (E32) at Hitachi Tower
* Conrad Centennial Singapore

26 & 27 Sep 2008 >> 10.30pm to 12 Midnight

Hey people .... let me explain the move .
The main reason behind the move , is not to help the drivers , it's helping their MRT that operates til 1.30am .
If every people take taxi from Marina Area , instead of taking a train from City Hall , then their move to of extending til 1.30am will be dashed .
By putting a $5 tag infront of the taxi windscreen , indirectly moving the commuters into MRT services .
Got the logic ?
So please dun take taxi at the 14 taxi stands , please take from Bugis Junction . Or Shaw Tower .
Please be a smart commuter ..... if still there is a need to take a cab home .

I believe , this is LTA's move .
First LTA get Comfort to overhaul the taxi flag down , now it's no fair to get Comfort to take the shit again , so rotate to SMRT lor ....
I still dun noe why Premier and the rest follow .... it's time to voice a different fare , slashed the whole industries .
If i am TransCab and Smart , i'll remain the same fare thru'out the campaign , there's no need to follow . I believe my drivers will be more happy .

Maybe just a small sticker infront of the front customer's seat . That is u go up then u know ....But every taxi stand will have a surcharges signboard la ...definitely . Like Singapore Expo .
