my father has 2 cars. the one he drives to malaysia is a beat-up little mitsubishi that he purposely doesn't even wash. -
uncle who was Malaysian and still lives there because his factory is there told us if you are buzzed by a cop there, you don't stop... you just wind down your window, take out a couple of RM10 notes, show them by sticking your hand out the window with the notes fluttering in the wind, crumple them, and then let go..
the cops will stop to pick up the money and then not pursue you anymore

When I go there on business trips alone, I dress like the locals and speak like them and for transport I only use the cab driver I have established a good relationship with.
Seriously I don't mind paying more for safety

my car being really dirty is the natural state of the car
it only becomes cleaner after a rainstorm or after i go service my car coz Borneo Motors washes the car..
i only wash my car by driving it through a car wash when the windows become a safety hazard due to white-out when other cars shine their headlights and i can't see anymore

i used to work at that border..every shift, at least one person will come to me saying they got robbed... and about 3/4 of them would have bruises and wounds to show for it

ah, well, singapore is also becoming a more dangerous place these days..though at least our police don't ask for bribes and moonlight as robbers or kidnappers. as far as I know.
