  Officially, it's not a rip-off.

  It's a video which was 'inspired' by the Japanese video.

  They can say whatever they want.... to me it's still a rip-off.

  According to the local rags, a lawyer said that 'ideas cannot be copyrighted'. Ergo, The original producers can't sue the NDP committee for using the same idea.

  That said, it speaks volumes of the creativity of the NDP video producers.... or rather, the lack of one.

  Ironically, the original Japanese video was an advertisement on the creativity of children.

  Sounded weird to me as well.

  I remember that some science-fiction author successfully sued the producers of The Terminator. Apparently, they had used the similar ideas of a future apocalyptic war and sending a warrior back in time to kill resistance leaders.

  The end result was an out-of-court settlement and an official acknowledgement of the author's work in all versions and screenings of the Terminator franchise.

  So.... maybe the Japs have a case? I dunno. I'm no legal eagle.
