Seriously, if left with no choice, the dog will start to walk one. It only gets away with whatever it can get away with. They're just like little kids, pushing boundaries, hoping you'll be firm with them. -

The dog is the pack leader in your case! When I had my cats, when they tried to be funny with me about stuff like their food, I just shrugged and told them, too bad, if you wanna starve yourself, go ahead! They got the message very soon that it's my way or the highway so they seldom ever gave me prima donna issues.
One of them was really fussy too! She got huge quick-boiled prawns in her dinner bowl once, and she went over, sniff-sniffed, looked at me, and then gave me this dirty look and sat there waiting for something else to be served.
Big, fat, juicy, King-sized prawn, ok!! Luckily, I had Marcus, a food connoiseur! He sauntered over when he smelled something good, quickly finished up his prawn, and then looked at hers, and tried to makan hers as well and that's when silly Suzie realised that she's got something good on her plate and hissed at him to stay away from her share! The dumbass cat turned her nose up at a prawn!

Actually, I gave Marcus preferential treatment over the other cats... sometimes.
Such as the time when I gave them a treat of quick-boiled pig's liver. He's THE tum jiak one and he ran over because he smelled it way before the others did. He ate up his share, then proceeded to eat up everyone else's shares too. I tried to stop him and drag him away but he was too persistent so I just pretended I didn't see anything. By the time the other cats sauntered over, only the faint whiff of something delicious remains. Poor things looked at their empty bowls, looked at Marcus sitting smugly in the corner licking his lips and preening, and then looked at me, but I felt so guilty I pretended I didn't see them.
