åŸå�說é�Žï¼šã€Œé�“在爾,而求諸é� ;事在易,而求諸難。ã€�「法在顯,而求諸密;人在勤,而求諸懶。ã€�後é�¢é€™å…©å�¥æ˜¯æˆ‘說的,ä¸�是åŸå�說的。「求諸懶ã€�,懶是懶惰。
åŸå�是亞è�–,以繼å”å�之é�“為志,æ��倡王é�“,貶斥霸é�“。而å”å�則是ä¸åœ‹ç©ºå‰�絕後的大è�–人,也å�¯ä»¥èªªæ˜¯å…ˆçŸ¥å…ˆè¦ºè€…,也å�¯ä»¥èªªä»–有相當的來æ·ã€‚å”å�為什麼生在ä¸åœ‹ï¼Ÿæœ¬ä¾†å”å�å‰�生是佛教è£�邊的水月童å�,也就åƒ�善財童å�一樣;而ä¸åœ‹çš„è€�å�──é�“教的祖師,就是佛教è€�迦葉的化身。å”å�是水月童å�化身;é¡�回呢,就是佛教è£�é 的明月儒童化身。
為什麼迦葉祖師化身æˆ�è€�å�?為什麼水月童å�化身å�šç‚ºå”å�?為什麼明月儒童化身æˆ�é¡�å›žï¼Ÿé€™å°±æ˜¯å› ç‚ºä½›æ•™å¤§ä¹˜æ ¹æ€§çš„å› ç·£åˆ°äº†ä¸åœ‹ï¼Œæ‰€ä»¥é€™ä¸€ç�佛教的è�©è–©å°±çˆå…ˆæ��後地到ä¸åœ‹ï¼Œç‚ºçš„就是給佛教開路。他們把佛教的馬路先修好了,那麼ç‰ä½›æ•™å‚³åˆ°ä¸åœ‹ï¼Œé€™ä¸€äº›å¤§ä¹˜æ ¹æ€§çš„人就容易接å�—。ä¸�然,佛教傳到ä¸åœ‹æ™‚,一般人也沒有å¸é�“教,也沒有å¸å„’教;那麼佛教雖然高深,也沒有人懂,也沒有人接å�—,是很費力的。於是è€�迦葉也ä¸�è¾è¾›è‹¦ï¼Œå…ˆåˆ°ä¸åœ‹åŒ–身å�šè€�å�。怎麼å�«è€�å�å‘¢ï¼Ÿå› ç‚ºä»–ä¸€å‡ºç”Ÿé 髮也白了,é¬�å�也白了,一出生已經就è€�了,所以å�«è€�å�。
è€�å�å§“æ�Žï¼Œå��耳,å—è€�è�ƒï¼Œä»–到ä¸åœ‹ä¾†ï¼Œä¸�斷地努力æ��倡é�“教,而ä¸�說是佛教;水月童å�呢,就æ��倡儒教,就這麼開了兩æ¢�å¹³å�¦çš„é�“。所以ç‰åˆ°ä»¥å¾Œä½›æ•™å‚³åˆ°ä¸åœ‹ï¼Œå°±æ°´åˆ°æ¸ æˆ�,很多人都接å�—佛教的é�“ç�†ã€‚ä¸åœ‹çš„儒教就è¬å¦‚å°�å¸çš„å¸ç”Ÿå‰›å‰›å…¥å¸é–€ï¼Œæ‰€ç ”究的都是å°�å©å�容易懂的é�“ç�†ã€‚那麼以後就å�‡åˆ°ä¸å¸ï¼Œä¸åœ‹é�“教的é�“ç�†å°±è¬å¦‚ä¸å¸çš„課程。ä¸å¸è®€å®Œäº†ï¼Œå°±è¦�讀大å¸ï¼Œé‚£éº¼ä½›æ•™çš„課程就是大å¸çš„課程,所以儒ã€�釋ã€�é�“三教是三而一,一而三。å°�叿˜¯ç‚ºä¸å¸é �備的,ä¸å¸æ˜¯ç‚ºå¤§å¸é �å‚™çš„ï¼Œå¤§å¸æ˜¯ç‚ºæ‰€æœ‰æƒ³è¦�æ·±é€ å¸å•�çš„è€�百姓而é �備的,所以有å°�å¸ã€�ä¸å¸ã€�大å¸ã€‚佛教å�¯ä»¥èªªæ˜¯ç›¡è™›ç©ºé��法界的一所大å¸ã€‚
雖然這所大å¸åœ¨é€™å…’,但ä¸�一定æ¯�一個人都能進大å¸ï¼Œé‚„有很多人連å—都ä¸�èª�è˜çš„,所以有很多人ä¸�èª�è˜ä½›æ•™ï¼Œä¸�知é�“ä½›æ•™æ˜¯ä»€éº¼ï¼Œä¹Ÿå°±æ˜¯é€™å€‹åŽŸå› ã€‚å› ç‚ºé›–æœ‰å°�å¸ä¹Ÿæœ‰ä¸å¸ï¼Œå�¯æ˜¯æ‰€æœ‰çš„å°�å©å�ä¸�一定都能進得å°�å¸ï¼›æ‰€æœ‰è©²è®€ä¸å¸ç¨‹åº¦çš„å¸ç”Ÿï¼Œä¹Ÿä¸�一定完全會進ä¸å¸ï¼Œä¹Ÿæ˜¯é€™å€‹é�“ç�†ã€‚所以在ä¸åœ‹ä¾†è¬›ï¼Œå„’教是å°�å¸çš„課程,其他的宗教å�¯ä»¥èªªéƒ½æ˜¯ä¸å¸çš„課程,而佛教是包羅è�¬æœ‰ï¼Œç„¡æ‰€ä¸�包ã€�無所ä¸�容,所以說盡虛空é��法界都是佛教的大å¸ã€‚那麼其ä¸ä¸�èª�å—的人ã€�ä¸�能進大å¸ã€�ä¸�能進ä¸å¸ã€�ä¸�能進å°�å¸çš„人還是很多。
儒教的å”å�也有五眼å…通,他也具足相當的智慧,智慧淵å�šï¼Œæ‰€ä»¥å”å�出生的時候有麟å��玉書的祥瑞之相。å”å�說:
「å�¾å��有五而志於å¸ã€�,他說我å��五æ²çš„æ™‚候,就立志è¦�å¸ç¿’了生脫æ»çš„æ³•,å�¯æ˜¯é›–然有這個志氣,還沒有真æ£ä¸‹æ±ºå¿ƒã€‚
「三å��而立ã€�,ç‰åˆ°ä¸‰å��æ²æ™‚,æ‰�下了決心,一定è¦�修行了。
「四å��而ä¸�惑ã€�,ç‰åˆ°å››å��æ²çš„æ™‚候,他一切的懷疑ã€�疑惑ã€�迷惑都斷了,所以說ä¸�惑。ä¸�惑就是ä¸�動心了,也就是åŸå�說他四å��ä¸�動心一樣的é�“ç�†ã€‚什麼事情ä¸�動心?財ã€�色ã€�å��ã€�食ã€�ç�¡ä¸�動心了。財,他也ä¸�貪,é�©å�¯è€Œæ¢ï¼›è‰²ï¼Œä»–也ä¸�貪;å��,他也ä¸�貪;食,好æ�±è¥¿ä»–也ä¸�貪;ç�¡ï¼Œä¹Ÿä¸�貪ç�¡è¦ºã€‚ä¸�惑,也就是ä¸�迷惑了,般若智慧ç�¾å‰�了。
「五å��而知天命ã€�,ç‰åˆ°å”å�五å��æ²ï¼ŒçœŸæ£å¾—到宿命通了。這個天命也就是宿命通,他能知é�“å�šäººçš„ç”Ÿå‘½å“²å¸æ˜¯ä»€éº¼ï¼›ä¹ŸçŸ¥é�“人的宿命──人的é�ŽåŽ»ç”Ÿæ˜¯æ€Žéº¼å›žäº‹ã€‚
「å…å��è€Œè€³é †ã€�,ç‰åˆ°å…å��æ²æ™‚ï¼Œä»–æœ‰è€³é †çš„åŠŸå¤«äº†ã€‚è€³é †ï¼Œåœ¨ä¸€èˆ¬ä¸–ä¿—äººæ‰€è¬›ï¼Œå�¯ä»¥èªªæ˜¯æœ‰å¤©çœ¼é€šã€�天耳通了。一般世俗人說å�ƒé‡Œçœ¼ã€�é †é¢¨è€³ï¼Œä¹Ÿå°±æ˜¯å¤©è€³ã€�天眼的作用。
「七å��而從心所欲ã€�,ç‰åˆ°ä¸ƒå��æ²äº†ï¼Œä»–得到了æ¼�盡通。得到æ¼�盡通,那麼這時他的工作完æˆ�了。他為了把佛教的路給鋪好,所以è¦�è¬›å¿ ã€�å�ã€�ä»�ã€�æ„›ã€�ä¿¡ã€�義ã€�å’Œã€�平這八德;å�ˆè¬›æ ¼ç‰©è‡´çŸ¥ã€�èª æ„�æ£å¿ƒã€�修身齊家ã€�治國平天下這八æ¢�目;å�ˆè¬›æ˜Žå¾·ã€�æ–°æ°‘ã€�æ¢æ–¼è‡³å–„é€™ä¸‰ç¶±é ˜ï¼ŒæŠŠä½›æ•™çš„è·¯çµ¦é–‹äº†ä¸€å�Šã€‚
æ ¼ç‰©ï¼Œä»€éº¼å�«æ ¼ç‰©ï¼Ÿæˆ‘們一般è€�å¸ç©¶ã€�è€�讀書人都懂的,就是è¦�把自己的物欲é�©åŽ»ï¼Œé�©é™¤ä½ çš„ç¿’æ°£æ¯›ç—…ï¼Œä½ çš„å¦„æƒ³ã€‚é€™ç‰©æ¬²å°±åŒ…æ‹¬ä½ çš„å—œå¥½ï¼ŒåŒ…æ‹¬ä½ æ‰€æ”¾ä¸�下的æ�±è¥¿ï¼Œé€™äº›éƒ½æ˜¯ä¸€å€‹æ¬²ï¼Œéƒ½è¦�é�©é™¤åŽ»ã€‚ä½ èƒ½é�©é™¤ç‰©æ¬²ï¼Œç„¶å¾Œä½ 的智慧æ‰�能開朗,æ‰�能ç�¾å‰�,所以è¦�致知。致知å�ˆè¦�èª æ„�ï¼›ä½ èª æ„�了,然後就æ£å¿ƒï¼›ä½ 能æ£å¿ƒï¼Œç„¶å¾Œä¿®èº«ã€‚ä½ å¿ƒè‹¥ä¸�æ£ï¼Œèº«å°±ä¸�能修,æ„�è‹¥ä¸�èª ï¼Œå¿ƒä¹Ÿä¸�能æ£ï¼Œé€™æ˜¯ä¸€å¥—的,一æ¥ä¸€æ¥çš„。身修,然後家也齊ã€�國也治,這就是å”å�è¬›çš„æ ¼ç‰©è‡´çŸ¥ã€�èª æ„�æ£å¿ƒã€�修身齊家ã€�治國平天下,這八æ¢�ç›®å�¯ä»¥èªªåŒ…括世間法和出世法的æ„�義。
ä¸�é�Žå„’å®¶å�ªçŸ¥é�“世間法,而ä¸�注é‡�出世法,所以它是個å°�å¸ï¼›å®ƒè¬›äº”倫八德,兄弟父æ¯�ç¥–æœ‰äº”å€«ï¼Œå…«å¾·å°±æ˜¯å¿ å�ä»�愛信義和平,這就把佛教的路給鋪了一å�Šã€‚é�“教呢,å�ˆæŠŠä½›æ•™çš„路鋪了一å�Šï¼›é�“教就å�«äººåŽ»æ¬²æ–·æ„›ï¼Œä¸�é�Žæ²’有åƒ�佛教說的那麼肯定,é�“教說:
  夫人神好清,而心擾之;人心好�,而欲牽之。
  常能�其欲,而心自�;澄其心,而神自清。
ã€€ã€€è‡ªç„¶å…æ¬²ä¸�生,三毒消滅。
  所以�能者,為心未澄,欲未�也。
  能�之者,內觀其心,心無其心;
  外觀其形,形無其形;é� 觀其物,物無其物。
  三者既無,惟見於空。
  觀空亦空,空無所空;所空既無,無無亦無;
  無無既無,湛然常寂;寂無所寂,欲豈能生?
  欲既�生,�是真�。
「夫人神好清,而心擾之ã€�,人的這個神是好清淨的,å�¯æ˜¯äººé€™å€‹å¿ƒå°±ä¸�è€�實,åƒ�隻馬猴,跳上跳下,å�‘å�—è·‘å�‘北跑,所以說「心馬æ„�猿猴ã€�,心åƒ�匹馬,æ„�åƒ�隻猿猴,它是ä¸�è€�實的。「人心好é�œï¼Œè€Œæ¬²ç‰½ä¹‹ã€�,人這個心是好清淨的,å�¯æ˜¯æ¬²å¿µåœ¨é‚£å…’牽著它,å�«å®ƒä¸�清淨。「常能é�£å…¶æ¬²ï¼Œè€Œå¿ƒè‡ªé�œï¼›æ¾„其心,而神自清ã€�ï¼Œè‡ªç„¶å°±å…æ¬²ä¸�生ã€�三毒消滅。

to what i heard from MCK, china last time also have 俱�宗, �实宗, which are in line with "hinayana" teachings, but when Buddhism went into china, slowly the past well learnt ancient masters stopped propagating them with the knowing that china's own teaching system can teach the moral conduct better. 10 wholesome deeds are a step higher than Dizigui.

one of the trouble maker, even critised why MCK only teach PL and not teach other sects/school. it's like saying why the teacher at school only teach history, why never teach maths, why never teach science. it's a laughing stock question. some more people can believe. that's how ignorance now people are. though not that MCK never teach other sects' scriptures, he did teach ch'an, when younger, but now old already, no energy, more important is PL.

The powerful function of this sutra is to enable us to he reborn in the Pure Land and never fall back. Rebirth in the Pure Land can be categorized in terms of the Four Pure Lands, and also into nine grades in each land. Here I will give a brief explanation of the characteristics of the Four Lands.
If you recite the Buddha-name without cutting off your delusions of views and thoughts, depending on how scattered or how concentrated you are, you are reborn in the level of the Land Where Saints and Ordinary Beings Live Together.
If you recite the Buddha-name to the point of singlemindedness (phenomenal level), your delusions of views and thoughts are cut off and you are born in the land that is the fruit of practicing expedient means: the Land of Expedient Liberation [where Arhats live].
If you recite the Buddha-name to the point of singlemindedness (noumenon or inner truth level), and you smash from one to forty-one levels of delusion and ignorance, then you are born in the Pure Land of Real Reward [where Bodhisattvas live].
If you recite the Buddha-name to the point that ignorance and delusion are totally cut off, this is the highest reward and you will be reborn in the Land of Eternally Quiescent Light [where the Buddhas dwell].

One question pops into my mind. Did he practice what he preaches here in this dharma talk? His zendo �场, did he ask his disciples to go study Confucianism first, and then Daoism second, then Buddhism? I dun think so. Correct me if I am wrong, the City of Ten Thousand Buddha, their study program for their young monks, does it start from Confucianism?

BuddhaDharma is all encompassing.
BuddhaDharma cover all levels including primary school level, secondary school level. Show me something Confucianism, or Daoism have, but the Buddhism didn't cover. If all aspect of Confucianism and Daoism are also cover in BuddhaDharma, Ven Xuan Hua point of view, like Ven JK, is flawed.

I didn't visit CTTB, so cannot comment on this. However, the 6 guidelines he introduced are:
1) Not to fight
2) Not to be greedy
3) Not to seek
4) Not to be selfish
5) Not to be self benefitting
6) Not to lie
which are in accord to the 5 precepts in Buddhism.
Confucius teaches:
filiality, å� – filial to parents and elders
fellowship 悌, – also known as brotherhood, respect for one’s seniors
responsible citizenship å¿ , – loyalty to one’s country
trustworthiness ä¿¡, – this is honouring your promises and words
propriety 禮, – this is being polite to others
righteousness 義, – going with correct principles
incorruptibility 廉, – this is to have integrity and not to be greedily corrupted
a sense of shame æ�¥. – this is not to do dishonourable things, even behind other’s backs.
In Buddhism we are encouraged to be filial to our parents and elders which is å�.
We are encouraged not to lie, which is having ä¿¡.
We are encouraged not to be greedy which will make us 廉.
We are encouraged not to have hatred and harsh speech which is 禮.
We are encouraged not to have sexual misconduct and steal which is having �.
We are encouraged to practice humility which is 悌.
We are encouraged to remember the kindness that others have bestowed us which help us to be å¿ .
We are encouraged to do good and avoid evil which is 義.
These are just some examples and they can also be inter-exchangable. there are actually a lot of similarities btw Buddhism and Confucianism.

Is BuddhaDharma that difficult to grasp? If it is so difficult to grasp, what are those elementary Buddhist textbook for? For who? There are elementary buddhist text books for children, intermediate buddhist textbooks for young adult and so forth. Accoring to Ven Hsuan Hua logic, all the buddhist textbooks are for advance level. For the adults.
My personal understanding is that it is not always taken literally. It can also refer to the level of a person's understanding that allows him/her to accept which ever level of teaching suitable for him/her. Not necessarily age-related. For example, if you teach someone about enlightenment, about the sufferings in this world they may not accept. But if you teach him to be filial to his parents, to be loyal to his friends, etc. he may be more willing to accept.

Er.... I noe. Not necessary about age. The gist of his message, is that Buddhism is advance teaching. The route, is via Confucianism as entry, and Daoism as intermediate level, and then proceed to Buddhism the advance level.
I disagree with that kind of view. Buddhism can be easy, can be intermediate, can be advance. No need to use Confucianism as basic moral teaching, Daoism as intermediate teaching. Buddhism also cover those two levels, the basic level, and intermediate level. Thats all I am saying.
Hope what I'm going to say will not spark another debate. 儒釋é�“有“异曲å�Œå·¥”之妙 but of course, Buddhism covers more than Confuciansm and Daoism. What Confusiansim and Daoism have, Buddhism has. What Buddhism has, cannot be found in Confucianism, Daoism and other religions.
