Talk by my Taiwanese teacher, Missionary Chen Ming An.
I think I missed this post earlier. Nice article. I did not know there is another poem from master Hui Neng which is more enlightened than "No Bodhi" poem. This poem is difficult to understand if without the explanation from the article above.

The above was given advice to 臥輪禪師云 that 臥輪禪師 did not see bodhi.
that's new to me. i agreed the No Bodhi poem is still on emptiness.
i know the one:-

Let me explain the meaning, ha ha..... actually not from me, the explanation is from AEN's master. He said "No Bodhi" poem is not great enlightenment because there is still an emptiness(空相) whereas this poem which was composed after Master Hui Neng was enlightened. Meaning after the 5th master explained the Diamond sutra to Master Hui Neng.
There is not even a (空相)in this poem, so it is considered great enlightenment.
æƒ èƒ½æ— æ”¯ä¿©ï¼Œ- 我没有一个法å¯ä¿®ï¼Œæ‰€ä»¥ä¹Ÿæ²¡æœ‰ä¸€ä¸ªæ³•å¯ç。

Ch'an Patriarch Hui Neng's first poem conveys only the initial realization of our luminous essence, with the dualistic tendency still strong, there is a strong tendency to cling to the formless presence.
The initial realization of this essence is only the formless, luminous, bright and lucid, unborn aspect of our essence... the aspect that pristine awareness does not lose its lucidity and brightness and no dust can alight whether in samsara or nirvana. At this point, Awareness can still be seen dualistically - as an ultimate background of phenomena, a lucid void behind all manifestation.
The second poem conveys the insight into non-duality... the aspect that all phenomena (all thoughts, sight, sound, etc) are the expression of the same essence and nature.
It is the realization that 心,佛,众生, ä¸‰æ— å·®åˆ«. It is the realization that there isn't three things: thinker, thinking, and thought, but only a self-luminous process of thinking/thoughts without thinker. It is the realization that there isn't three things: seer, seeing, and seen, but only a self-luminous process of seeing/scenery without seer. The expression/manifestation itself is Buddha-Nature.
Related to a summary of my recent writing... (am thinking of sending it to my teacher as well)
