Introduction to Emptiness “One of the most important philosophical insights in Buddhism comes from what is known as the theory of emptiness. At its heart is the deep recognition that there is a fundamental disparity between the way we perceive the world, including our own experience in it, and the way things actually are.” ~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama Emptiness is a key concept in the ontology of Mahayana Buddhism and it arises from the Buddha’s observation that nothing possesses an essential, enduring identity. Emptiness is not a mystical sort of nothingness, but a specific truth that can be understood through calm and careful reflection. Click here to register. |
