My relative's house got a painting of Guan Ying Pusa.I noticed a circle on her head.
Wad's the circle about? Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure. I think it refer to her enlightened aura.... if it is a moon, then sometimes moon can also symbolise compassion.
It is common to depict spiritual persons or deities with an aura around their head indicating holiness. It is called a halo.
I see.So an arhat can also be drawn with an halo since it's enlightened. Not necessarily must be buddha or pusa?

If that person is interested in Buddha's paintings then yes. If he doesn't like it then maybe not.

Giving ppl dharma books is better than buddhist paintings?Wad abt giving away chanting beads?
Dear forummer , the circle mean the halo on guanyin head or Buddha light ,translated loosely .
in real life when the Buddha was living, did the Buddha had a halo around his head? read the sutras that the Buddha body was illuminating, like gold in colour.

The Buddha said that the Gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.
So of course, giving dharma books is better than buddhist paintings and so on.
Chanting beads is also a good gift - but most importantly that person must know the dharma and want to practice himself.

Please view the following links which show the real halo on Buddha's head during the 开光 ceremony. Halo is 佛光。I had posted these links before.

Actually I don't think this is what fo guang.
It is just a very ordinary weather phenomena - I had seen it many many times before. Nothing special.

I think we should not be overly superstitious over such things, otherwise we will be a laughing stock in the face of scientific knowledge.

May be science can explain how the halo is being formed but I don't think it can explain why it always happens after the chanting or after the 开光 ceremony. The links show it happened after 开光 ceremonies.
In fact, there is another video clip which is more convincing but I could not find it now but I've watched it. It showed fo guang shining on Goddess of Mercy at Putuo Shan (普陀山) during the 开光 ceremony. I was told by the tour guide about the fo guang during the 开光 ceremony when I went to Putuo Shan in China. The tour guide told me he saw it himself and not only him, thousands of people saw it.

Talking about Korean Buddhism, reminds me of Korean monks. There was once I saw a group of Korean monks at a local temple, I was there chanting. The monks are all so good looking (should say 庄严), better looking than Korean actors. Ha ha ha................. don't think too much, I'm just surprised that Korean monks can be so good looking.
