The Venerable Lama Pema Wangdak was born in 1954 in Western Tibet in a place called Purang. At a tender age of 6 years old, he had to leave Tibet with his family and eventually resettled in a refugee camp in Mundgod, South India. As the only child in the family who had survived the arduous journey as a refugee, he subsequently became a monk at the age of seven under the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism. He devotedly received teachings and training from His Holiness The Sakya Trizin and other great Sakyapa Masters. Later he was enrolled as a student at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Benares, India, and graduated in 1980 with a Acharya (master) degree
