doesnt mean work as a groupier in the casino, but working as HR, finance, accounts, marketing etc, backroom operations. is working as a admin executive considered right livelihood albeit in a casino?
one can see the example of 胡å°林董事长 a bussiness man/Entrepreneur who make great earning using Buddhism and 弟å规 to manage his company. His share increase by 45% during the hard times! One can seach his youtube talks. He's one of Old Master Chin Kung's student age 50+. There's a Q&A where the audience ask something about greed in making an earning and being Buddhist contradicting or not.
The answer was stress on the concept of Not-Self. That mean if u make money for the sake of yourself then it's not right livelihood, but if u make money for the sake of OTHERS, then it's Right livelihood. hence in the latter case, the more "greedy" u are in making money in helping the needies the better per se.
So i often say Buddhism is suppose to be lively 活活泼泼 not dead æ»æ¿. :)

I agree with you 佛法是活的ä¸是æ»çš„。However, I still see many people who don't understand this. Some even use the standard of living during Buddha's era to judge today's monks which I find it ridiculous.
Yeah,
Buddha teach us to get rid of attachment, then some people don't know this, they detach from daily life and attached to Buddhism. this is only changing the object of attachment, not actually learning the true meaning of buddhism.
it's the mindset that counts.

i think will have contamination...since u r supporting the operations and gaining from it.
But nowadys livelihood problem vs karma is very hard. very hard to be pure clean livelihood so one got to decide for him/herself. we have to face facts u know, in samsara sure creating more bad karma most of time, this is the nature of the cycle.
but if u ask me, i wun choose to work there. also companies to do with fishing, killing, tobacco, beer etc. wun touch with a 10-foot pole...

Some 没没抢的工作are morally not right. For example prostitution etc. I will not work in the casino unless there are no other choices. I believe Christians are like Buddhists will avoid working there unless leaving with no other choices.

what about those working as a trader in shares/forex/derivatives etc etc, albeit in stock/forex/derivatives market.
beer? so work as waiter/waitress also got problem, as they need to serve wine/beer/liquor.

yar lor, so that's why i say difficult in samsara to find completely pure livelihood right?
i myself think that if you can try to find a other job that can avoid then best find, if need to eat but have to do such job then better do more purification practice while working lor... this is samsara leh...
So means working at the singapore pools is also bad karma ? Its just for livelihood, far better than going to the streets and beg, or steal/rob.

can if got no other choice cos then it's your karma to create more negative karma. if you are young and have choice, then use your choices well... that's what i'm saying... dun put the question like there's absolutely no choice... if there's no choice, then wat for question in the first place?
Then what about the creation of casino in the first place ? isnt it even more bad karma ? Is it a necessary evil ?

PM Lee had said it before. previously he rejected it outright due to the evils of gambling. but then he relooked the matter and IR can help create a lot of jobs and tourists arrivals. the casino contribute just a little portion to the IR.

Its the social problems that comes along with gambling. Well wat to do, nothing more money earning that gambling right ?
Regarding working in casino: I would say that if there are alternatives, maybe it would be wiser.
However as a Buddhist one must avoid the following five wrong livelihoods:
"Monks, a lay follower should not engage in five types of business. Which five? Business in weapons, business in human beings, business in meat, business in intoxicants, and business in poison.
"These are the five types of business that a lay follower should not engage in."
- Buddha

Precisely. Nobody gets rich by gambling, but alot of people lost all their money and savings due to gambling + stupidity.

- Business in human beings: slave trading, prostitution, or the buying and selling of children or adults.
- Business in meat: "meat" refers to the bodies of beings after they are killed. This includes breeding animals for slaughter.
- Business in intoxicants: manufacturing or selling intoxicating drinks or addictive drugs.
- Business in poison: producing or trading in any kind of toxic product designed to kill.
Yes. These 5 are specifically mentioned by the Buddha as wrong livelihood for lay buddhists. We should try our very best to stay away from these 5 wrong livelihood.
