The present 10th Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche was recognized by the late H.H. 16th Karmapa. The late 16th karmapa knew that Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche is the one when he saw through his undiluted wisdom eye. Also based on his birthplace, the name of his parents, the year and sign of birth, that clearly indicated his identity.
Nyenpa Rinpoche was born in a family of practitioners; Sangye Lekpa and the mother Karma Tshewang Choden, who resided at the Guru Rinpoche’s temple, the Tiger Nest Phar. According to history, it is said that Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche's source of emanation is the Buddha Maitreya. Buddha Maitreya took many births as different Mahasiddhas of India, such as Yeshe Nyingpo, Pandita Mirtijana
