what constitute a buddhist funeral? usually chinese would hold a 3 days wake. is it necessary for buddhists to have a 3 days wake?
I tot normally is 5 ? But some can request it as 3. Chanting lol, then last day jiu sliently go..... Jing jing de lai, jing jing de zhou.
3 days is already quite long, what more 5 days.
Normally is 5 for taoist, buddist dont want so zhang yang thats y 3. Some even request 7.......
how much does a 3 days funeral wake costs? 10k at least right?
Dono.... i not funeral director But you want the fastest jiu do it the islam style, the day when die, wrap in a cloth jiu can go liao.
Not really, except by law you now have to wait at least 24 hours before cremating/burying the body (this probably exempts muslims). Keeping the body for at least 3 days is a local custom to facilitate relatives and friends to come and pay their last respects. In Japan, Taiwan and HK they normally keep only 1 or 2 nights. I think in Sri Lanka at most 2 days, so it's up to the local custom.

Yup . But many ppl will gather as their family is very big. I seen 200 ppl plus in a funeral.
depends on the family clan. It is always a sad matter to say goodbye to a loved one. So, so sad..... I don't think need to chant for 3 days ...

Islamic funeral, my neighbour died, 200 to 300 people come. Malay family is very big.
hindu also very fast. cremate within 1 day isnt it?
what is the buddhist funeral per se?
I not sure, but i think the purpose of Buddhist funeral is for family to accumulate merits for the deceased... like ask monks to come and do prayers, make offerings, put food out for the deceased etc.
Buddhist funeral shd not have mahjong/cards/mourning.... haha

I think its just to lead the soul/spirit to the other world, or something. Mahjong/cards all those i think is just to attract people to the funeral place, as some elderly people prefer Re nao. If you know what i mean.
how much does it costs to arrange for a 3 days wake? including coffin, tables and chairs and meals etc etc. heard that it is in excess of $10k?
yes... i juz joking alittle, in this world, expect people to change is quite rare. better to juz be more accomodating.

Confirm cheaper than taoist funeral. But around there i guess. Coffin alone already cost 1 or 2 K if its a cheap one.

yes, very bad to make profit from the deceased n relations... unless u sure can help them.... . i also heard fr fren, very bad impression given to her.
TS, what's the purpose of this thread? for curosity's sake? or just to slam the process?
Not sure how much the cost is, because all my relatives' funerals have been Catholic or Protestant. (I'm a convert to Buddhism) But if you have a temple that you go to in Singapore then you won't have to pay a huge sum for monks/nuns to do the chanting for you. But i think 10k is a minimum to say the least, including all the food catering, coffin, ang baos etc etc... But, there's no need to buy paper paranerphelia (kim chua) nor wear sack cloth etc; a Buddhist funeral can be dignified yet simple. I think there are some websites on how to conduct a Buddhist funeral on the Internet, maybe you can do a search?
