Earthquake Devastates Jyekundo (Yushu)
You have likely heard about the devastating earthquake in the Tibetan area of Jyekundo. The quake measured approximately 07.49 (23.49 GMT).
Due to limited capacity on the ground, it is difficult to assess the devastation at the moment. Early reports indicate that hundreds have perished, while a local observer estimates that the number is likely above 3000. An estimated 80% of the buildings have collapsed. The water dam has been damaged and there are fears of the city being flooded.
We at Machik are deeply saddened by the tragic human loss and send our prayers for those who struggle for survival now.
Jyekundo is a Tibetan county approximately 800km southwest of the city of Xining. It is on the border of the Kham and Amdo regions. The vast majority of the local people are Tibetan herders without access to emergency relief resources.
The people of Jyekundo urgently need your immediate help for medicines, clothing, food and clean water, and in the longer term for rebuilding their community.
Machik is networked with Tibetans who have years of experience serving local community needs in the Jyekundo and surrounding areas.
Machik is creating a safe mechanism for delivering funds directly to those who are best able to reach those most in need.
We assure you that all funds donated through "Machik Earthquake Relief" will go directly to assisting the people of Jyekundo and the devastated communities.
Please send your cheque to "Machik Earthquake Relief" to the Machik office address below or donate online at www.machik.org today. (Please make certain to make a note in the donation form that indicates "Machik Earthquake Relief")

with regard to this topic,
i just received today an sms. It is said that a reputable Rinpoche in Bhutan has advised people to do more prayers to Guru Rinpoche because there is a prediction of other devastating earthquakes upcoming... it may be possible to stop or alleviate the earthquakes by addressing your strong prayers to Guru Rinpoche cos of the nature of his compassionate vows to protect in this degenerated times...
pls note that you are welcome to ignore this message. I am just posting this message for the benefit of those who might feel any urge to believe and contribute prayers... and not trying to create false alarm here. If one feels that one has the time to do more prayers, then it wld be fine to do so... after all doing prayers collects merits.
The mantra of Guru Rinpoche is:
OM AH HUNG BENZA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUNG.
If you feel any doubts or queries, pls feel free to pm me but not entertaining debate on this topic, please for goodness sake.
Thanks for the links.
Please help if you can.

PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. PayPal serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such as checks and money orders and has been involved in many cases of litigation concerning fraud scams.
A PayPal account can be funded with an electronic debit from a bank account or by a credit card. The recipient of a PayPal transfer can either request a check from PayPal, establish their own PayPal deposit account or request a transfer to their bank account. PayPal is an example of a payment intermediary service that facilitates worldwide e-commerce.

Practicing = generate merits, if alot of people practice = alot of cumulative merits... thus may affect things positively.

I dun think so. cos when natural diasters strike, nothing and no one can stop. how to mother stop nature? unless Buddha is around. but then if the Buddha is around, will he intervene and stop natural diasters from happening?

Natural disasters are due to our karma. Accumulating merits can affect our karma, which in turns affect (positively) by reducing catastrophes.
If everyone is unrepentant then even Buddha may have difficulty stopping the disasters.
Ajahn Brahm said this. if people live by or near the sea, so obviously there will be the ones who are going to perished if there is a tsunamis isnt it. I didnt hear him said about karma. maybe this are some truth in this, but I am not sure, cos I am not enlightened to see their karma. did buddha said about collective karma?

Stories of collective karma are all over the suttas.
There were many examples which Buddha explained how the collective karma of for example (in a past life) a group of fishing villagers killing their catch led to an all out war between the Sakyans and some other kingdoms. This all happened in Buddha's lifetime.
There were many examples of how disasters came out as a result of karma done in a collective scale.
Is there any Buddhist centre in Singapore collecting donations for the Tibetan earthquake which my friends and I feel more comfortable with than donating on line. I knew there were Buddhist centres collecting donations and delivered the donations personally when disasters struck Si Chuan and Myammar.

once they accomplish certain kinds of attainments, high masters can stop natural disasters... eg. i think HH Jigme Phuntsok stopped a volcano eruption or something like that in one country, not sure if it's Hawaii or something... dun need to do alot of prayers, just do something simple.

He is not one who speaks casually. But due to the sensitive nature, it is not possible to reveal. But i would like to request all vajrayana practitioners who read this forum to do as much Guru Rinpoche mantras as possible and dedicate to the ending of all natural disasters in the world in general but especially in this region and Singapore.
sorry for sounding like a superstitious idiot, but i think we are not worried about the hundred thousand chances of it not happening, but of the one in hundred thousand chances that it happens.
There are going to be far more severe natural disasters as a result of Earth's rebalancing in the next few years. Watch Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire in the coming year...
Yes, it's true that highly advanced spiritual Masters have the capability to control/limit Earth changes, but often, more than 1 Master (with blessings from others) are needed to work together to 'produce enough outcome', for massive disasters. As for why such Masters can control/limit effect of Earth changes, one needs to understand that every being including Earth is connected. Earth is far more advanced in consciousness than humans will ever be.
