His Eminence Khenshur Lati Rinpoche passed away today at 5:45am April 12th, India time, in Dharamshala India. He passed away peacefully in his residence unexpectedly with only minor stomach trouble as a symptom. He was not hospitalized. He had circumambulated His Holiness the Dalai Lama's temple just prior to his passing.
We will be holding prayer services for him every evening at Thubten Dhargye Ling center at 7:30pm starting now. Everyone welcome. Please offer prayers for his return in your personal practice as well.
His Eminence Khenshur Lati Rinpoche was a senior monk, teacher, former Abbot, and important Tulku of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He and Ven. Geshe Tsultim Gyeltsen were very close, and he was the personal teacher to our new Abbot Khen Rinpoche Jangchub Choeden. He had visited and taught extensively and gave initiations at Thubten Dhargye Ling several times in years past and was therefore a root Guru for many older students of TDL.
This is a very significant loss for Gaden Shartse Monastery and for students of TDL because he was one of the most important Lamas of Gaden Shartse, an experienced guide for everyone there, and one of the last of his generation of Tibetan monks who trained in Tibet before the exile. He will be greatly missed by all the western students who he blessed with his teachings and care.
