Can more be done to improve MRT safety ?

If both of this can be done, they would already have done it or somebody will have suggested it.

Why don't they just add a barricade to the side of the platform with a sliding gate that open when the train arrive, the sliding gate maybe cost more but the barricade should be cheap, those type of steel barricade to make people queue at bus stops, shouldn't be too expensive and definitely cheaper than having so many video cameras around and no one looking at the cameras.

if they can educate the public to be less kiasu and not stand so near to the edge of the platform, probably a lot of accidents could be prevented -
I think the govt shd not be too stingy to spend money and bear the cost of such upgrades.

i got an idea: chained all the people up according to their destination before they all being lifted up to the cabin using mobile crane. Then ppl will get No chance to jump off the track. just like shipping live poultry
