On Lay Apostolate Sunday, the Catholic Church celebrates the participation of the laity in the mission of Jesus Christ. The Second Vatican Council teaches us in paragraph 31 of the Constitution of the Church:
“...[The laity] who by baptism are incorporated into Christ, are placed into the People of God, and in their own way share in the priestly, prophetic and kingly office of Christ, and to the best of their ability carry on the mission of the whole Christian people in the Church and in the world.”
