Hi all, I am not very sure if what I am about to post is relevant here but as a Catholic I see many forumnites whom are very knowledgeable. So here goes. I had signed up for a yoga membership for a year last October. Many of my Christians friends warned me and told me that Yoga is like almost worshipping Buddha. Of course I defended by saying its nothing like that and I have a friend whom is also from OLPS church had consulted Father Greg about this issue. He answered that if you still stand strong on your faith and treat it like form of exercise it's really ok. But yesterday a friend explains that the reason why most Christians do not support in yoga is because it promotes in fertility and every almost all the positions are derived from many sexual potions. He added that itÂ’s almost supporting the God Of fertility in the Indian culture and therefore it goes against the bible. Of cos being the Kan chioeng me I did a research and its true that almost all positions of yoga is derived from the Kama Sutra positions. Thus I am really confused and stopped yoga for a while before I consult a Father. Now I am really wondering if it's ok to do yoga or not. I am hoping someone can help ans me in some ways or another thanx ya.

Can i ask you a question, which school of yoga are you talking about? because i wiki yoga hor, what i get is very general knowledge of what yoga is, and it really depends on yourself, why do you practice yoga, if your intention is just for mediation and of pure intention, why not continue and after all, it is good for health, and you are not even worshiping any of their gods, so just because of what others said, you stopped and now you want to consult a father for his opinion about whether to continue to practice yoga..........
So what exactly, do you want? -
just treat yoga as a relaxating techniques

If u are not worshipping any Gods nor having any sinful or with sexual intent, yoga is fine.
There is no definitive teachings from the Church regarding yoga hence its up to the indivdiual. -
No lah I was jus very worried when my friend said that its going against the Bible. Going against the way of the Lord. Yah thanx for all yr comments. Should be ok i think, I;ll still talk to the Father again to confirm. Feel much relived now! My confessor advises against Yoga.

Secondly, even Buddhists do not worship Buddha.
Furthermore yoga nowadays consists of merely postures. It's spiritual purposes used in the past has been lost in the modern form, into some form of physical exercise. Up to you, I am in no position to advise a Catholic, just stating what I know. -
