Why did Jesus choose Peter?

Let's discuss this. Why did Jesus give Simon Peter the key?
Why not- Andrew
James ("the Great")
John (why not John? since Jesus favoured him the most )
Philip
Bartholomew
Thomas
James ("the Less"), son of Alphaeus, some identify with James the Just [1]
Matthew
Simon the Canaanite
Judas Iscariot (this one of course out cuz he's the traitor -

Can't take a joke? Because Peter was the most steadfast among them. Aka. The Rock....
But as Honeybunz did state that Peter was the most ordinary of the twelve apostles, any success in the growth of the church is a miracle attributed to God and not to Man. -

Because he was the most vocal? I don't think the other would've said anything if they'd received the revelation instead.

I think because Peter was imperfect just like any of us (denied Jesus 3 times and lost his faith while walking on water etc). I guess Peter wasn't very educated (he was just a fisherman). Jesus meant to have someone as ordinary as any lay people to lead the Church. He wanted to send the msg to the world that the Church and Salvation are for everyone, not just the rich and smart ones. -

It's easy to come up with reasons why He chose Peter.
But now I wonder why He didn't choose the rest of them. -
I thought it was God who chose Peter - "It was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven." (Matthew 16:17)
