i was looking at our Doctrine on Euthanasia;Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:yeah, but you cant go around the neighbourhood kicking dogs for fun...
LOL, can't blame the catholics... No matter how badly a person is suffering, he or she must suffer at the behest of God.Originally posted by ben1xy:i was looking at our Doctrine on Euthanasia;
"As the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has said, "Nothing and no one can in any way permit the killing of an innocent human being, whether a fetus or an embryo, an infant or an adult, or and old person, or one suffering from an incurable disease, or a person who is dying." Moreover, we have no right "to ask for this act of killing" for ourselves or for those entrusted to our care; "nor can any authority legitimately recommend or permit such an action." We are dealing here with a "violation of person, a crime against life, and an attack on humanity" (Declaration on Euthanasia," 1980)."
The word "human" stood out. If that's the case, then it will not be applicable to animals.
Honestly, i dun feel comfortable still.
the reason i brought this up is that a friend of mine is studying vet. studies in Uni and he asked me whether he's allowed to put animals to sleep.
Any other input guys and girls??
we have dominion over animals, so it's all right.Originally posted by ben1xy:i was looking at our Doctrine on Euthanasia;

A bedridden paralytic is no less dignified than an able-bodied being.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:LOL, can't blame the catholics... No matter how badly a person is suffering, he or she must suffer at the behest of God.
in the case of a vet, it's mercy killing though. we deem that the animal is better off dead than suffering? sighs. somehow i still think its wrong. maybe it's the animal activist in me speaking,Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:we have dominion over animals, so it's all right.
but its not right to kill animals recklessly.
the animal has no rational soul, don't let it bug you.Originally posted by ben1xy:in the case of a vet, it's mercy killing though. we deem that the animal is better off dead than suffering? sighs. somehow i still think its wrong. maybe it's the animal activist in me speaking,![]()
How about a terminally ill cancer patient suffering in pain?Originally posted by Kuali Baba:A bedridden paralytic is no less dignified than an able-bodied being.
how is pre-marital sex a grey debate?Originally posted by rmyfrm:Good question, I'd like to know the answer too.
FYI, I'm Catholic and pro-choice (not pro-life) - inconsistent indeed.
Note the difference between killing animals for subsistence and putting animals down to end their lives (even on sympathetic, merciful grounds).
I reckon this falls within the same category as the other grey debates - whether pre-marital sex is ok, whether we should use a condom - etc. etc.
he is a human being that must be accorded his dignity.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:How about a terminally ill cancer patient suffering in pain?
Will it be considered as suicide if he gives his consent?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:he is a human being that must be accorded his dignity.

So a terminally ill patient can only be given euthanasia unknowingly?Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:of course.
Correct.Originally posted by kaister:So a terminally ill patient can only be given euthanasia unknowingly?
Wouldn't that make the doctor a murderer? Killing with intent?
Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:Correct.
