What: Emerging Angels at the Church of Saints Peter & Paul features two rectangular slabs made of a compound that slowly evaporates upon contact with the air. Over the course of the Biennale, the slabs gradually reveal embedded fibreglass figures of angels.
His second work, Wound, at Tanglin Camp, also attempts to hold an artistic conversation with its space. In an otherwise dark room, a glowing chasm cleaves the floor of the exhibition space, invoking associations with the violence of war.
Why see them: Imbued with a touch of understated conceptual grace, his works will ease you gently into the world of modern art.
Emerging Angels engages with the religious context of the space, toying with the idea that the embedded angels emerge as if called forth by the accumulated faith of the devotees who come to church.
Where: Church of Saints Peter & Paul, 225A Queen Street, 10am to 5.30pm, Mondays to Saturdays, noon to 4pm on Sundays.
Hmm, I've got to check that out the next time I go there...
