  i spoke to some priest abt this. they told me i was free to believe in evolution as long as i understood that it was directed by God.

  Just curious, Is there any guidelines on when the Bible/Scripture is to be taken literally and when its to be taken as just figuratively?
  If not, how do we know, which is which?
  If yes, what/who determine these guidelines?

  Not that I know of. If we have questions, we just look up the Catechism or other Church-approved sources.
