I READ WITH GREAT INTEREST the special report, “In Poland, Pope Benedict calls for solid faith, reconciliation, peace” (CN, Jun 11).
It is encouraging to note that Pope Benedict is perpetuating the legacy of spreading the same message of love, peace and reconciliation left behind by his predecessor, Pope John Paul II. In Poland he reached out to thousands of Poles with the love of Jesus Christ and revived the memories of the late Polish pope who was dearly loved and respected there.
It must have been painful for the German-born pope to visit the Auschwitz death camp where thousands of Jews subjected to the atrocities of the German dictator, Adolf Hitler perished during World War II.
As a Catholic, I am proud of Pope Benedict XVI. I am confident that, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he, like his predecessor, will also do something beautiful for the glory of God during his papacy. What he has done so far augurs well for the future.
