May 1 is Labour Day, but it is also the Feast of St Joseph the Worker.
St Joseph is the foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Saint Joseph was descended from the royal house of David. Though a mere carpenter, he was chosen among all men to be the husband and protector of the Virgin Mother of Jesus Christ.
To his loving care was entrusted the childhood and youth of the Redeemer of the world. He reveals to us the perfect model of Christianity through his purity of heart, patience, and fortitude.
St Joseph is the perfect model of Fathers and of Workers. Let us imitate his example of obedience to God's will.
As it is Labour Day, we continue to pray and to work:
1) that all workers may recieve a just wage 2) that there will an end to child labour, especially slavery and prostitution 3) that the rights of workers always be respected 4) that young people may decide carefully with their choice of occupation.
God, our Father, Creator and ruler of the universe, in every age You call man to develop and use his gifts for the good of others. With Saint Joseph as our example and guide, help us to do the work you have asked and come to the rewards you have promised.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. +Amen.

today's feast is classed as a memorial, not as a solemnity.
