Holy coming out of the closet, Batman!
The newest incarnation of Batwoman - a rarely seen DC Comics character - will be a lesbian, and her new sexual orientation has provoked heated debate among faithful comic book readers.
"It amps it up a little bit," said Ron Hill, 37, manager of Jimmy Hanley's Universe, a comic book shop on W. 33rd St. "They've long abandoned things aimed at 8-year-olds."
The decision to turn Kathy Kane, Batwoman's alter ego, into a buxom 5-foot-10 lesbian socialite was reached as part of DC Comics' push to diversify its characters and reinvigorate its decades-old comic book franchise.
