Sir Bobby underwhelmed by Newcastle signings tribalfooball.com - September 15, 2006
Sir Bobby Robson admits he's been underwhelmed by Newcastle United's summer signings.
The former Toon boss said: "They bought a few players, and those players will need time to settle in.
"Giuseppe Rossi is a player that Man United could afford to let go so how good he will be at Newcastle I don't know.
"Sibierski has come from Man City. Man City again seemed to be having problems up front.
"They have problems scoring goals freely and regularly, yet they can let Sibierski go to Newcastle.
"So, again, how good Sibierski is I don't know. Again we will have to give him a chance and see what happens.
"And, of course, they have invested a lot of money in Martins, who is not very big at all.
"They had terrible luck with Owen, terrible luck. That hasn't gone well for them and let's see what Martins can do.
"So those players need time to play themselves into the team and see how good they are.
"What Newcastle needs is a bit of time and a bit of patience and let's see that the players that Glenn Roeder has brought in are going to be up to the job.
"Now if they are, they do all right and if they're not, well, they're obviously like anyone else, you struggle.
"The power of your team is in your best players and if your best players don't perform then your power goes so we'll just have to wait and see with Newcastle - but my fervent hope is that obviously they do very well."

I hope Newcastle sign a defender or two when the transfer window re-opens.
