Manchester United have announced a pre-tax profit of £27.9million for the financial year - down £11.4m on the previous term. The reason for the decrease in the bottom-line profit figure is put down to increased spending on transfers, which during the period was £28.8m.
As a result manager Alex Ferguson has been warned he must sell before he can buy again, following the £27m purchase of Wayne Rooney. 'We have now spent next summer's transfer budget,' said PLC chief Sir Roy Gardner.
