Liverpool's transfer activity has today moved into overdrive as Real Sociedad confirmed that the Anfield club had made a £10.7m move for central midfielder Xabi Alonso. That followed news that Danny Murphy will be a Charlton midfielder after a £2.5m swoop after his move to Spurs collapsed. And speculation remains rife over the future of Michael Owen, linked with Real Madrid in many quarters this morning. His future may depend on his participation in tonight's Euro fixture with Grazer AK.

Losing Murphy and possibly Owen are definite blows to us...but Alonso's arrival will cushion some of its impact. It's also a sign of more positive things to come.
