  NAKANOTO, Ishikawa Prefecture--They dropped out of the sky, apparently--the fish, that is.

  About 10 small fish, all dead, were found Tuesday near a road in a residential area here. The fish, each 3 to 5 centimeters long, appeared to be crucian carp.

  A 78-year-old man in Nakanoto spotted the fish on the rear roof of a van and in a roadside ditch Tuesday evening.

  The unusual sighting comes after about 100 dead tadpoles were found in Nanao, about 15 kilometers north of Nakanoto, and more than 30 in Hakusan to the south on June 4, 6 and 8.

  Opinions on the cause of the incidents include birds spitting out tadpoles or a tornado, but no one has come up with a convincing explanation. (IHT/Asahi: June 12,2009)
